Stories usually end in the best way that makes sense to the creator, so sometimes it's a happy ending, other times it ends in tragedy. Personally, I feel most stories (that I have seen) lack that wholesome ending that makes us feel good and forget about real world issues. My characters are very important and special to me, as I'm sure every writer feels, so putting them through the worst of pain and trauma feels terrible for me, but I am consolidated by the fact that I plan on their redemption and happy endings.
