I was not excited. Where did the time go? Just yesterday I was in grade two flying behind the building in the field. Now I’m 15 on my first day of high school. This was going to be great. I quickly spotted a boy with purple hair waving at me. I didn’t want to be rude to the first person who’s actually being nice to me at a new school so I waved back. I walked over to him where I saw another boy and one girl. “Hey. You must be new here. I’m Patrick! People call me pig lover.” The purple haired guy said. “I wonder why.” I replied. The girl smiled at her. “I’m Charlie. I’m known as the funny one around here.” She said. Another girl was standing quietly beside them, with a sketchbook and mechanical pencil in hand. She just smiled at me than continued her drawing. Our new teacher came out, her name was Mrs. Nightingale. She led us inside the classroom. I didn’t expect a grade 9 class room to be this colourful. Mrs. Nightingale explained how she was teaching art class. Everything makes sense now. We were going to be making a self portrait, except half of our selves on the outside, and the other side was ourselves on the inside. I did not want to be doing this, making a portrait about showing my true self? Yea, not happening. I decided I could lie, but I couldn’t think of anything that wouldn’t get me bullied. I saw that other quiet girl from earlier looking just as worried as I felt. Well who cares it’s not like she can turn into a dragon and have wings and she tries to keep a beast inside her all day. I looked around, that girl Charlie, and that guy Patrick and the other guy who hadn’t introduced himself yet, all had TEH same expression on their face, all worried and unsure. The quiet girl noticed my expression. “You have it too don’t you?” She said quieter than a whisper. I looked at her, puzzled. The girl sighed and showed me the sketch she had been drawing earlier.
