The stale evening air permeated the alleyways, filled with the stench of several open trash bins. Several cockroaches scurried about, searching for any readily available rotting food. However, when several had found a freshly abandoned carton of nachos, the shaking and trembling of the earth from a sonic wave sent them all scrambling. Nia was sent flying backwards yet again, being flown out of the square and into an alleyway.
However, Joren stayed still, glowing bright as he stared at Nathan, his eyes scrunched and serious. Nathan's eyes widened as he took a cautious step back, surprise etched across his face as Joren began to speak. "Quite the amount of power you've released all at once. It's impressive. Close to the most I've absorbed after just a single attack." Within the blink of an eye, Joren dashed forward, throwing his fist forward with an immense amount of force. Moving his head to the left, Nathan just barely managed to avoid the blow, the air whistling past his ear.
Holy–
His thought immediately interrupted by another powerful blow. He continued to dodge, the two engaged in a high stakes dance. However, within seconds, Nathan could clearly see that the force behind the attacks began to wane. Seeing his chance, Nathan dodged another punch and threw up his knee with as much force as he could muster, kneeing Joren in the stomach, allowing him to take several steps back.
Quite the impressive power…absorbing the power generated by my casting and using it in his own attacks. However…
Before he could move to respond, the gravity around him immediately began to strengthen, freezing him in place as Nia held out both hands, hiding behind Joren's body. She grasped onto his body through the gravity to keep him in place. The two slowly began to approach Nathan, with Nathan taking out a pair of specialized, glowing handcuffs. Nathan clicked his tongue at the sight. The V-20 Handcuffs…designed to cut off a person's connection to their abilities…
As Joren approached, Nathan again unleashed his power, causing just enough disturbance to cause Nia to stumble backwards, releasing the gravitational barrier. As Joren glowed and rushed forward, Nathan quickly grasped onto his gun, which had been held in a concealed holster, and aimed it at Joren, releasing the safety. The sound of two pops rang through the air as Joren dropped down, Nia using her abilities to levitate the bullets in front of her.
Using one last burst of strength, Nathan once again screamed, unleashing a torrent of destruction around them as trash, rocks, and random objects were flung in Joren's and Nia's direction. Shooting one last bullet to keep Joren from following him, Nathan scurried away, holding his mouth in pain as the sound of his footsteps echoed across the alleyway before quickly becoming inaudible. Nia looked in the direction where Nathan had just disappeared, quickly scrambling to her feet and dashing down the alley. However, as she looked both ways down the street, there was no sign of Nathan. Joren ran up behind her, breathing deeply. "Well…that went over well…" He bitterly muttered.
Nia shook her head. "I'm sorry…I underestimated him. I should have brought Lucien with us. His flames would have disintegrated any bullet fired, leaving him with no recourse."
"You kept him at the scene to help save lives. He and Amara are the best qualified to help administer first aid along with the paramedics."27Please respect copyright.PENANA1de3DtUyjm
"...and just how many people will die because we failed to bring him in now?" Nia shook her head. "Let's head back. We need to report what happened and try to figure out what Nathan plans on doing next."
"What about looking into this woman he mentioned?"
"We can save that for later, after he's in custody. For now, we need to focus solely on him." As Joren nodded and began to walk down the sidewalk, Nia took one last look around the area, committing it to memory. You of all people should know, Nathan…that you can run but can't hide forever. We'll find you…

Elias calmly glanced at the two police cars that were stationed outside the destroyed business, the yellow crime scene tape clearly visible despite the darkness surrounding the area. Grasping onto a large pocketknife, he flicked his wrist down, the blade extending with a satisfying snap. Maneuvering the knife to hold it with the base of his palm and the side of the blade pressed against his wrist, he stood up from his hiding spot and purposefully strutted towards the building, hiding the blade behind his hand. The three officers assigned to protect the crime scene spotted him, cautiously making their way towards him.
"Can we help you, sir?" One of the officers asked, his hand grasping onto the holster of his service weapon. Elias nodded. "Actually, you can. You see, I'm new here, and I can't quite find my way back to my hotel. Can you point me in the direction where 'Hotel De Mer' is?"
The officers visibly relaxed as one nodded. "Sure thing. Actually, you were heading in the right direction. If you keep heading that way, you'll get to an intersection where–"
As the officer turned around, Elias quickly let the knife drop, grasping onto the blade before throwing it at the left officer's eye, embedding it into the socket. The officer let out a scream of pain as he dropped to his knees Rushing forward, Elias grasped onto the knife and yanked it out as the man collapsed onto the ground, blood pouring down his face as his hand desperately covered his eye.
Before the officer who had turned around could react, Elias rushed up to him and slit his throat just as he reached out his hand towards the third officer and glowed. The officer clutched at his head as Elias's hand began to close. The officer opened his mouth to scream, but no sound came out as his body became limp, falling to the ground. Glancing at the first officer on the ground, still clutching at his eye, he stepped forward and thrust his hand down, the blade piercing the officer's heart, killing him instantly.
Breathing deeply, he looked down at the second officer, who was grasping at his throat, wheezing. "My apologies, gentlemen." He smirked as he watched the life leave the officer's eyes. "You've been a great help."
