“God, I wish I could just kill you!” Melissa screamed as she kicked my ass and the backs of my legs while I lay in a fetal position on the floor she had thrown me onto as soon as we got to her house.
I knew I was in for big trouble, too. Her silence during the ride spoke volumes of the pain and terror to come.
“It’s all I can do to keep from killing you, you pathetic piece of shit! You nearly ruined my career. You drove my husband away. And now you go and try to make more trouble for me! Where does it fucking end with you? When is enough ever enough? I have lost so much because of you! You deserve every ounce of misery that comes your way. Now get up!”
Slowly—ever so slowly—I somehow managed to push myself up into a sitting position. There was no way I was going to be able to get up off the floor, into my chair, or on the bed, though, and she knew it.
Nearly dislocating my shoulders, she once again surprised the shit out of me with her superhuman strength by grabbing my wrists and yanking me upwards and then onto the bed. My head bounced off the wall that ran alongside the bed. Now I wasn’t sure which part of my body hurt the most—my head, shoulders, wrists, or ass.
She left me there all night long, never giving me dinner and never helping me with a bath.
In the morning, after she finally bathed me following a long night of nightmares, my stomach was growling. I practically drooled over the smell of breakfast cooking—bacon, eggs, and even some French toast. I was famished, and I ate like it would be my last meal.
“You sure are making quite a pig of yourself this morning, aren’t you?” said Melissa. “But then again, your little blinking spree cost you your dinner, didn’t it?”
Since the Sippy cup I had to use was too heavy for me to hold, I had to lean forward and sip from its straw.
“Hopefully, knowing that you won’t get fed will make you think twice the next time you consider doing something stupid. Then again, the device I’m picking up today will be all I’ll need to ensure that you don’t do anything stupid in the future.”
My pulse quickened. Device? What kind of device? It chilled me just to think of the endless possibilities.
Left to sit in my room and stare at the wall while she spent a few hours out of the house, I wondered and dreaded what she might do when she returned. She didn’t do much of anything, actually, except teach me about the “device.”
The device was actually a necklace… and it wasn’t just an ordinary necklace.
“See this?” She held the necklace in front of my face so I wouldn’t have to struggle to move my head.
“It’s a necklace that weak little fingers can’t possibly remove. Ah, but it’s not just any necklace either, homewrecker. Oh no, it’s got this fancy little electronic device in it that’s remote-control-operable. Ever been zapped with a stun gun before? If not, do you want to know what it’s like?”
My pulse would have answered her had she felt it.
She leaned in close to me, her once warm, chocolate-brown eyes now full of icy hate. “If not, then don’t even give the slightest hint that you’re unhappy with me, otherwise I’ll zap the shit out of you.”
I wished I could scream and run.
She picked up a small remote. “This thing can work up to 500 feet away. So don’t fuck with me. And don’t think of tipping anyone off when I’m not around either. Remember how I told you I have family in Florida?”
I did.
“Well, that family will go after your family if I tell them to. Understand? Tip someone off when I’m not around, tip someone off when I am around—either way, you’ll be sorry. What I’ve been doing to you is nothing compared to what this device can do to you and what I could have done to your family.”
I didn’t doubt that for a second.
