February is Black History Month — a time to celebrate the powerful impact of African American culture and creativity, from the Harlem Renaissance to hip-hop. But it’s also a time to confront the realities of domestic violence in the Black community.

Nearly 45% of Black women and 40% of Black men have experienced intimate partner violence. Survivors face systemic racism, discrimination, and barriers to safety and justice — especially if they are disabled, immigrants, or LGBTQIA+.

Organizations like Women of Color Network, Ujima, and Black Women's Blueprint are working hard to support BIPOC survivors. Let’s honor Black history not only by recognizing its art — but by protecting its people.
