It had been a month since Natasha arrived in Leipzig, and Christiane had grown closer to Natasha, discovering the depth of her character and the joy she brought into her life.
As Christiane sat by her desk, contemplating the path to reconciliation between Natasha and Marion, she couldn’t help but feel a mixture of nervousness and excitement. She knew that convincing Marion to join them in Turkey wouldn’t be easy, but she remained hopeful that their shared experiences could bridge the divide. She and Marion had actually planned the trip before either of them knew Natasha would be visiting. She really hoped that bringing Natasha along wouldn’t make Marion not want to go. She just didn’t feel right about leaving Natasha alone. It wasn’t that she didn’t trust her but that she felt it would be a bit rude of her to do that.
Summoning her courage, Christiane picked up her phone and dialed Marion’s number. The phone rang several times before Marion finally answered, her voice tinged with curiosity and caution.
“Marion, I really hope you won’t change your mind about our vacation in Turkey. Yes, Natasha will be tagging along but I don’t feel comfortable leaving her behind,” Christiane began tentatively.
“Christiane, we planned this trip before Natasha entered the picture.”
“I know we did but I didn’t know she would be visiting at that time, and as I said, I don’t like the idea of leaving her behind. I trust her but I don’t want her to feel abandoned.”
Marion snorted. “When the hell is she leaving anyway? I didn’t know she would be here this long.”
“I could explain more to you but I didn’t think you would want to hear it because I know your feelings about her. I don’t know when she’s leaving. It’s September now, so I don’t suppose she would want to be here in the winter.”
Marion’s response was filled with skepticism. “I’m not happy about this at all but I’m not about to let her room our vacation. You know how I feel about her.”
Christiane understood Marion’s hesitation but remained determined. “I understand your reservations, Marion. But I truly believe that a change of scenery and time spent together in Turkey could be fun and interesting. Let’s meet in Antalya as planned, stay at the same hotel, and take small steps toward whatever is meant to be. We don’t have to rush anything.”
Marion’s silence stretched for a moment before she let out a deep sigh. “Fine, Christiane. I’ll meet you both in Antalya. But don’t expect much. This is as far as I’m willing to go. Meanwhile, I would like you to make it perfectly clear to her that I don’t want to talk to her when we’re there. I accept the fact that we’ll see each other in passing at times but I don’t want to make this about reconnecting with a former friend in the virtual world that I’ll never see again. I want to make this about what it’s supposed to be about and that’s you and I soaking up the sun and sea.”
Christiane felt a glimmer of hope as Marion reluctantly agreed. They set a date and made arrangements for their reunion in Antalya, a coastal city known for its stunning beaches and vibrant culture.
Christiane didn’t know why the thought of them meeting appealed to her so much and why it excited her as much as it did. As Marion said, Natasha was a former friend and this would likely be the first and last time they ever laid eyes on each other in real life. But there was something about the thought of it that made her smile. Maybe it was because she was hoping she could eventually convince Natasha to be her roommate since they got along so well. She and Marion traveled together and met with each other at their places a few times a year which meant that if Natasha stayed, this would be far from the last time they saw each other.
In the days leading up to their meeting, Christiane informed Natasha about Marion’s reservations. It was a difficult conversation, filled with a mix of disappointment and understanding. Natasha, too, felt a mix of nervousness and excitement at the thought of seeing Marion again. She couldn’t help but wonder if their encounter would be marked by tension or if it could potentially pave the way for reconciliation.
As the day of their meeting arrived, the trio found themselves in Antalya, staying at the same hotel with Marion a few doors down from Natasha and Christiane. Nervous anticipation hung in the air, each heart pulsating with a mixture of hope and uncertainty. They agreed to start with dinner at the hotel’s restaurant since they arrived in the early evening.
Christiane and Natasha arrived at the restaurant first, scanning the room nervously. Soon enough, Marion walked through the door. Her eyes coldly met Natasha’s before shifting away. The atmosphere grew heavy with unspoken tension.
Natasha kept her word about not speaking to Marion but couldn’t suppress a giggle. Christiane gave her a look of warning while Marion studied the menu.
“I know you two lovelies know some Turkish but I don’t have a clue with this menu is saying,” said Natasha.
Christiane helped her choose something and they each enjoyed their meals.
As the evening progressed, Christiane made an effort to keep the conversation light, steering it toward shared memories and lighthearted topics. Marion, on the other hand, continued to be rather quiet.
Marion expected Natasha to be heavy and frumpy looking but she was surprised with a slim, fit, and attractive woman. Apparently, she had lost a lot of weight over the years. However, none of this changed how she felt.
Natasha was pleasantly surprised as well. Because some time had passed, she expected Marion to look older and not very appealing but she actually looked quite nice with her tall slim frame and her blue eyes. She really hoped she could win Marion over. She couldn’t wait to at least try!
