Artemis was the first to get up. She grabbed a small bag and started to leave her room when she heard someone else. She went to the living spaces door to find Momo laying on the couch. She wasn’t awake so Artemis let her be. Artemis walked outside to the dark sky because the sun wasn’t up quite yet. She made her way down the dirt pathway to the city's edges. Artemis knew this time of day was dangerous, Kimiko told all of them that ‘if the sun wasn’t in the sky then you can’t see what’s comin’ for you.’ But that was irrelevant right now. Artemis entered the city, she tried her best at hiding from the hoards wandering the grounds that have been lost and forgotten through time. Artemis went back to the hospital to hide out for a while. The door was still blocked with wood so nothing could get in.

Artemis sat in the children’s area of the hospital because it had the least amount of rot smell and dead corpses. She stood up and started moving her hand across the dust and mold covered walls, the paint long gone. That was until her hand ran over something in the wall. Artemis stared at the wall trying to find out what made the bump. She peeled and tore away at the wall until she saw a button behind a glass case. Opening the glass case allowed Artemis to press the button but instead she stood there and stared at it trying to decide if she should. After about two minutes of standing there watching a button she pressed it knowing full well that in movies something like this never ends well. It's like complaining about movie cliches and then doing that same cliche. You’ll never guess what happens next…Suddenly, the wall breaks apart to reveal a hidden passageway with the label of ‘R-Research’.

Artemis looked into the dark hall with what were working ceiling lights. They had lost power a long time ago, just like everything else. Artemis wasn’t going in but instead went to find a source of light that she could bring with her into the hall. She walked around until she found a lighter in someone's pocket and then went back to the secret passage. Now she stood in front of the passage again, but the only difference was that she now had a light. She walked down the hall, and surprising everyone, the wall did not close on her but remained open. It wasn’t very long, but it did have several rooms on each side of the wall. Artemis entered one of the rooms with the label of ‘R-Files and Security’ It was a security room just like had said with cabinets full of files. Artemis did what anyone would do in this situation and looked through the files while sitting down on the floor. There were files on top of files but each one was more interesting than the last. The deeper she went, the more she found out about the secret science organization that was under the hospital.

Minoru and Kimiko had been up for a while, they were having a staring contest. Eventually Kimiko turned around and walked out the door with her two side bags. Minoru waited for her to come back with a stick to hit him with but she never walked back inside. By the time Minoru realized that Kimiko wasn’t coming back, Kimiko had already made it down the dirt pathway and was now following the gravel road that did lead to a garden but now leads to a fence covered in vines and other such plants. However there was a rock in the center of the area. You could sit on the rock because it was smooth on top and hence why Kimiko sits on it just so she can watch the city from a safe distance. The sun was coming up over the horizon, showing the world a sky full of reds, oranges, and yellows with a few hints of a purplish blue. At this point, Kimiko had gotten up and made her way down to the city. She walked until she got to a colorless art studio. She could see the painter hanging from the ceiling, almost as though he was ending his life before zombies got him, or maybe he knew what was going to become of him if he continued living.

The point is, he’s dead, and now his stuff is free for the taking. Kimiko entered the store to take his jacket that was on top of the counter, or at least she thinks it’s his jacket. No matter, it’s a deep purple color with broken pockets. Hana can sew this up when she gets around to it. Walking around the studio showed that this man was a cartoon animator. Kimiko tried reading the name of the cartoon, but it was beyond her. As she continues looking around, Kimikos sees a lever with an orange handle. The lever was very inviting with the sign of ‘DO NOT under any circumstances PULL the LEVER!!!’ so Kimiko pulled the lever and then the floor opened. Kimiko felt a slight fear of the floor suddenly moving under her from the last time it happened. Kimiko looked down into the hole in the ground. It had a tunnel that someone would have to crawl through. Kimiko wasn’t going down there; not only would it be dangerous, and she could easily get herself killed, and her slight claustrophobia was saying no. Then a zombie came in to investigate the noise, kinda like the horde just outside the windows. It could smell something that wasn’t a corpse, but it couldn’t find what was making the smell. It seemed to be coming from under the floor, right under a dark grey lever. Kimiko had jumped in, and then the floor hole was covered up.

Minoru walked into the city at mid-morning. He wandered over to the food court. There wasn’t much here since it had been thoroughly searched through by him and Kimiko. Minoru heard something by the trash bins, it was rushing around inside a shopping bag that used to belong to a store called ‘Big Hats’. At some point, Minoru leaned down and grabbed the bag, and flipped it over. The creature fell out. It was an opossum. It scurried off as soon as it hit the ground. Minoru continued his walk until he came across a tree with weird-looking wood on one side and normal wood on the other. Minoru walked up to the tree and touched the strange wood. It felt like wood until Minoru knocked on it, and it sounded like metal. And so Minoru got the grand idea to find a way to open the tree metal. He looked around for anything to use to pry it open. Minoru walked until he got to the outside stage that used to have groups of people performing for the people in the food court.

Behind the curtains was a tool box with a flat head screwdriver. Something that could pry the tree open. Minoru ran back to the tree that he had left and placed the screwdriver at where the metal started…he couldn’t get the screwdriver to go under the metal. He kept trying because he didn’t want to lose to a tree. He did, in fact, get the screwdriver under the metal part of the tree at some point although it took longer then Minoru would have liked to admit. Once he opened the tree, Minoru saw an empty square shaped pit with a question written on a piece of paper as well as instructions, ‘Please speak aloud. Who do you save? The old or the young?’. It was a very strange question. What was the situation? Why were there only two people? Why wasn't there anyone else there to help? Why did you have to choose who lives and who dies? Minoru thought about the question for a long time. It didn’t have a right or wrong answer.

Artemis reread the letter more than once trying to comprehend what went down. She started pulling more letters out of the files. Putting them in the right order showed her the conversation between the Head of Directions and Dr. S. Chambers. They spoke of their next moves and how to extract the R substance from infected bodies. It was not a pleasant operation. Artemis’s head snapped up as she heard something moving outside of the room. She dropped the letters and hid under the security desk as it was the closest hiding place that could fit her. Someone stood in the doorway, they leaned against the metal frame. The tall dark silhouette looming in the door frame, casting a thick tension and overall darkness filling the already darkened room. The figure was wearing a white uniform that was covered with filth but Artemis could see what was a word and the number 1. They appeared to be searching the room for something but Artemis couldn’t tell what they were looking for until they looked straight at the desk she was hiding under. Artemis watched in horror as the figure gained a smile that stretched across their entire face, stopping at the ear quite literally.

Their face was torn apart, which allowed Artemis to see all the teeth, each and every one of them sharpened to points and covered in tartar, with black spots on the molars. They took two strides to get to the desk, they held the desk with one hand as they bent down and stared down Artemis as she tried to get further under the table, her back hitting the wall. Artemis looked at the elongated women as she reached out and grabbed her. Her hazel eyes burned through Artemis’s head as she dragged Artemis out of the room and into a different dark room but there was still enough light to see the sign saying that it was a room called ‘Room 102’.

She continued to drag Artemis across room 102 and into a room called ‘Room 7’. It was still dark but Artemis could see a light down the next hallway but she could also see someone standing in that hallway. It was another female and she looked like she was just as deranged as the women dragging her. Except she was different in the way that something was coming out of her back, and her ears were no longer human. She had a tag, ‘Subject’, then a number that Artemis couldn’t make out from where she was.

With Minoru, he was still struggling with the question and then the tree closed but then the bark moved and opened the tunnel in the middle of it. Kinda like a slide that went straight down into certain doom. Minoru peered down the dark and dingy tunnel, he didn’t trust it at all and had no intention of going down. The oppossum came back and stared down Minoru’s back. It wanted revenge for being thrown out of its bag. It ran up to Minoru and jumped up, hitting him in the back. Minorui stumbled forward until he fell into the tunnel while the opossum watched him fall with a smile on its cruel little face. Minoru fell and fell and fell until he hit the ground. He sat up while holding his head because he landed on his back. Suddenly he was grabbed by someone. His eyes snapped open to see a person staring him down, he was normal but something just felt wrong about him. The man reached down and got hold of Minoru’s legs. Minoru was pulled into a room labeled ‘Room 7’ In there he saw Artemis being pulled by someone. Minoru tried looking down the hall that Artemis was looking at but he couldn’t from where he was.

They were both yanked over to the hallway in which the other person moved down the hall. Minoru and Artemis were now in a room that they called the main office. It was full of desks and those small walls in offices. There were papers and pencils all over the floor, however some of the things were left in their exact spot, like they were left there. As if whoever was here had to leave in urgency. It all felt wrong. There were three others in this room too, it was another male and two females. Nothing looked wrong with the girl but she stared for way too long, seeming to be thinking about something that they couldn’t make out. The other girl had two pairs of ears and stood on the legs that would look like they weren’t centered. The guy appeared to be strong in muscle mass and had a lot of injuries on him.

Kimiko had crawled through the dirt tunnel until she arrived in a room with large containers. A very similar room. She was already scared, and this wasn’t helping. This was the room she swore she had been in back when she was teleported. She stood up and walked between the containers until she got to a hallway. She looked down and saw something else in the room on the other side. He was small and dirty. He suddenly ran down the hall right at Kimiko so she turned around and started running away. As soon as she found another hallway she ran into the room only to run into two other people. One who looked perfectly normal and the other with long pointed ears and hind legs that would belong to a canine or a feline. The small guy jumped on her back and clung to her neck.

The other two grabbed her arms and started taking Kimiko to a round room that held another person and then she was taken into a room with a group of other people, only she already knew two of them. Kimiko, Minoru, and Artemis all locked eyes while being pulled into the center of the room. It was not a nice experience.

Minoru was the first to speak up,
“Soooo, Why are you two here?” He asked while trying to pull away from 4 and 2.
“Here’s a better question…who are the other people?” Kimiko asked. The human-like people looked at each other like they were communicating through their eyes. It was weird and way too silent. At some point, the number 7 walked to the center of the room, glazing around the room as the other numbered people took their places. The three were pretty sure that she was blind but she seemed to know her way around somehow.
“We are the test subjects for R.” She stated like it was a completely normal thing to say. But she didn’t stop there,
“You three have wandered into our area. We would eat you but 0 has told us not too. We will keep you alive until he returns with fresh meat for us.” 7 finished speaking and was now waiting for a response.
“You were going to eat us!?” Minoru called out like it was going to solve the problem of being essentially kidnapped.
“It was our intention.” 7 replied.
“Who are you?” Artemis asked 7.
“Like I said, we are the test subjects.” 7 said.
“But what are your names?” Artemis asked again.
“My name is Casey.” 7 said as she nodded towards the other members of their little cannibal club thing they’ve got goin’ on
“I am 1, my name is Christine.” said 1 or Christine as they now knew.
“I am Victor of room 2!” Victor's voice boomed out like he was the lead actor in a successful play. Which they wouldn’t be surprised if he had been.
“Fleur is Fleur’s name.” Fleur said as if she was in the third person, similar to a small child.
“Aoife is the name I was given a long time ago.” Aoife said as he stood with his arms crossed behind his back.
“My name is Rosie. I’ve been here for a long time!” Rosie said very happily.
“Muhammad, I’ve been here the longest.” Muhammad informed them.
“I’m Rickey, number 8!” Said the one on Kimiko’s neck.
“Hello, my name is Emma.” Emma said very flatly.
“Ronan.” Ronan said in a quiet voice.
The three just stared at them, trying to remember who was who. There are too many names for them to remember correctly. 4 and 2 or now known as Aoife and Vickor, took Minoru by his arms again and pulled him away. 1 and 5 or Christine and Rosie dragged Artemis down the hall to the right. 8 and 10 or Rickey and Ronan took Kimiko back into the room with the containers.

Artemis was laying down on the floor of the watch room as Christine called it. It was cold down here in the underground. It was also really dark.
“Hey Christine, What do you guys do for fun around here?” Artemis asked after a very long silence.
“We wait.” Christine answered while staring directly at the wall.
“For what?” Artemis asked but she had a good idea for what.
“For 0 to return.” Christine said as she turned her head to look at Artemis.
“Who is 0?”Artemis asked Christine.
“You’ve really met him.” Christine answered.
“I don’t know anyone named 0.” Artemis said while still trying to get an answer from Christine.
“His name is Tenebris.” Christine finally said while turning back to the wall. Artemis tried thinking about anyone named Tenebris but she didn’t tell Christine this because if she did then Christine might eat her. It was not a very nice thought.

Minoru was standing next to Victor because Victor refused to let him go. He was really bored and his ADHD was starting to go haywire. He swore that the shadows were moving to form weird animal looking things. He kept shifting around and then he started to make noises just to make noise. It was just way too quiet to not make sounds. At some point someone made another noise. It came from the left. He knew who it was because this wasn’t the first time he had heard this sound, the loud and strange sounds that could only be made by Kimiko and himself. They did this when bored and for communication. They never understood each other but they could understand the type of sounds. Like if they were happy or scared. No words had to be spoken to tell each other if there was danger around. It was a very confusing and very…unique system to say the least.

Kimiko was sitting on a desk in the far back of the container room with Ricky and Ronan when she heard Minoru making noises. She responded back to him in her own weird noise. Ricky looked right at her and then tilted his head to the side. Ronan just gave her the side eye. At some point Ricky started talking,
“Whyareyoumakingallthatnoise?” He spoke way too fast for it to not be one word.
“Because Minoru is bored and so am I. He seems to be alright.” Kimiko responded.
“Butttt why all the noise?” He spoke in a high pitched voice while grabbing Kimiko’s hair.
“It's hard to explain and let go of my hair, you rat.” Kimiko resorted.
“I don’t wanna!” Rickey said as he yanked the hair.
“I will choke you.” Kimiko said as she moved her hand to his throat.
“RONAN! SHE’S TRYING TO KILL ME!!” He yelled as Ronan turned around.
“Let go of her hair and she’ll let go of your neck.” He said, trying to reason with what seemed to be a child.
“But it's so messy.” Ricky reasoned back while Kimiko started to tighten her hold on his neck.
“Rickey let go of the poor girl's hair.” Ronan said.
“What did you just call me?” Kimiko said as she looked over at Ronan, “I am not poor.”
“Sorry.” Ronan said while looking at that floor.
“Well you’re no fun.” Kimiko said as she tightened her hold on Rickey’s neck again. Rickey let go of her hair and then Kimiko let go of his neck.

Artemis would have been scared of the noises coming from around the underground lab but she also knew that Kimiko and Minoru were down here and this is a very common occurrence in the house.
“What is that g– foul noise?” Christine said while covering her ears.
“Kimiko and Minoru talking through ung–ly sounds.” Artemis had to break the news to christine.
“Why would they do something this resentful!” Christine called out as she turned her head to look at Artemis with a very hard glare.
“Because they can and they’re bored.” Artemis said as she started curling in on herself.
“I’ll kill them.” Christine said as she took the first step towards the noise.
“Didn’t Tenebris tell you not to kill us?” Artemis asked, mainly trying to stop her.
“I don’t care right now.” Christine said as she continued to make her way across the room.
“Oh come on, they’re not being too loud.” Artemis said. She would get up to stop her but imagine a mouse trying to stop a giant…it's not going to work.
“But they are loud to 3, 5, 7, and 8.” Christine said.
“Who are they again?” Artemis asked.
“Fleur, Rosie, Casey, and Rickey.” Christine said while just getting to the door frame.
“I’ll get them to stop.” Artemis said while not knowing if it was going to work or not. She knew that they made a certain sound to sign for danger.
“Enlighten me.” Christine said.
“Making the ‘danger’ sound should get them to stop.” Artemis said while looking at Christine to look her dead in the eyes.
“Do. It.” Christine answered. Artemis tested out her vocal cords first. Then she stood up and walked to the hall. She brought her hands to her face. Then she called out in a mix of high pitched and the sound you’d think a dog would make. Minoru and Kimiko heard this and got really confused.

Minoru sat there in complete silence, wondering what made that sound.
“Why doth thou speak in strange sounds? Reaching far across our underlands?” Victor said while striking a dramatic pose consisting of him leaning back and placing the back of his hand up against his forehead while turning his head slightly as the other hand went limp to the floor. Aoife just watched while crossing his arms on his chest and rubbing his forehead.
“Kimiko started it a long time ago and then I started doing it and now we both do it.” Minoru explained. He remembered when they all lived together in a normal house in a normal city. When they had parents and friends. Back when everything was taken for granted. It was simpler and peaceful. He and Kimiko would screech at each other from different parts of the house while Hana would tell them to stop. Akio would try to join in but Minoru and Kimiko would stop because it was their thing. Akio could get his own thing. Minoru sat there in silence, still as a rock as memories came flooding back to him. Listening to mom scream as zombies tore her apart trying to get to the rest in the house. Dad had taken him and the others upstairs and into the attic where he managed to put a hole in the roof using a sledge hammer. They got out of the house but mom was in pieces, in mind and in body.

Kimiko sat there staring down the hallway trying to figure out what made that noise.
“Was that Artemis?” Kimiko asked. She wasn’t really expecting an answer but she got one anyway.
“Yeah, she was trying to get y’all to stop screaming!” Rickey answers in his now usual quick manner and high pitched voice.
“Oh.” Kimiko said while being disappointed. “How do you know?” She asked.
“I heard it wit meh hearing.” Ricky resorted to a more childish voice.
“You got super hearing!?” Kimiko said as she whipped her head around to look directly at Ricky.
“Ye!” He said joyfully.
“Man! That must suck!” Kimiko said.
“Yeah!” Ricky said while still smiling. They had been underground for who knows how long now. It was actually getting kinda boring with the cannibals. That was until Ricky suddenly perked up.
“He’s back!” He called out as he jumped to the floor and ran off somewhere into the darkness.
“He means that 0 has returned and 7 has most likely called us to gather in the main room.” Ronan said as he held out a hand. Kimiko grabbed his hand and started to walk with him to the main room. Minoru walked with Victor and Aoife. While Artemis was with Christine and Rosie. Now everyone was gathered around Casey and someone new. He was short.

Artemis and Kimiko recognized the guy. He was the one at the hotel who attacked them! And then followed them to some degree. However seeing him now, as short as he is, was kinda funny.
