"That's right, mine and mine alone." He mumbled, hugging her. She hugged back, her arms around his shoulders. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAH5YEF9kIov
"Did you bring the stuff you said you would?" He asked, looking at the bag. Emery nodded, moving to the bags and taking out a box of Ibuprofen and Tylenol. He peaked over her shoulder, looking at the boxes in her hand. She turned to look at him. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAKmbrKBum0Q
"Which one do you take?" She asks, looking up at him. He grabbed the red Tylenol box, and smiled. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAiD9uc6bCFC
"This one, I'm allergic to Ibuprofen. Nearly died the last time I took one." Not really, more like his dad poisoned him but we don't talk about that, not yet at least. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAVIn0gAUxtF
"Well take two pills and go to sleep, I'll go out again and buy you soup if you want. A few snacks as well." She said, filling a glass with water and handing it to Cassian. He grabbed it, and took the capsules swallowing them along with the water. He set the glass down, and kissed her cheek.13Please respect copyright.PENANAjoR2KXobVA
"Okay, just be careful. The night before Fourth of July can be dangerous for a pretty girl like you." He says, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. She scoffed rolling her eyes. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAfbhydTx7Fw
"Ugh, you're so old. I'll be fine, I have my ways of getting out of trouble. I'll be back before you know it." She grabbed the key, and walked out the door. As she walked down the path to the warm glow of the boardwalk, she felt eyes following her. It wasn't Cassian's eyes, his felt different. It was someone else's something uninviting. She looked behind her, nearly falling over at a girl that looked an awful lot like Jules. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAkRotVs3EYt
"Jules?" She called out, and Jules' lookalike looked up. It was her. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAJNQFjWd7xx
"Oh hey, Emery. What're you doing out here?" She asked, she moved her hand to fix her blonde hair out of her face. Must be a new color. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAPqcC71P5f4
"Cassian and I came for the Fourth of July, we're leaving on I think Sunday. You?"13Please respect copyright.PENANAzQnCmOdaOj
"Hm, same thing. Actually, yes and no. I just came to see my girlfriend, they live here. Haven't seen them in a while, but I love them so much. Oh look there they are. Hey, Charlie." Jules waved, at them. Charlie smiled waving back. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAPiIpAfYVXW
"Oh, they seem nice." Emery mumbled, shyly waving at Charlie. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAkj3ZmIiBGC
"They are, well I should go. But see you around, yeah? Maybe we can have a double date tomorrow at the firework show." She said, Emery blinked. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAlpe9Z9u933
"How'd you know about us?"13Please respect copyright.PENANAk3oP6o2Y7m
"Saw you two kissing at the aquarium. Bye!" She called out, and went over to Charlie. Emery blinked, and giggled at herself. Of course she did. She always does, always in places you won't even know of. She turned on her heel, and started walking back to the boardwalk again, the night air caught in her hair. She breathed in the cold breeze, smiling softly. Her eyes wandered around, various shops lit the place. The Ferris Wheel in the distance, couples here and there. It felt just like the Summer Festival back home, just more magical. 13Please respect copyright.PENANA9UdYUkQp9F
Her mind didn't wander back to Ian, nor anything at the moment. She felt safe, as if none of that had ever happened. She imagined being with Cassian forever now, get married, move to Spain. Maybe have a daughter, name her Clare. It'd be the life she had always wanted. but of course, that was only her dreams. She had to face reality, and face it well. She entered a jewelry store, mostly bracelets and necklaces with sea shell charms, or beach related things. Crescent moons just like the one Emery had, amongst other things. She looked around curiously, her eyes drawn to a certain necklace in particular. A chain with a sun charm on it. It reminded her of Cassian, she smiled softly. Even if Cassian was far from anything bright or sunny. To her it was the world. Just being with Cassian meant the world now. She had seen a side of Cassian no one would ever probably bothered to discover, the soft, vulnerable side of him. The side where he isn't just cold or distant. But the side that makes you stay, a warmth that makes you melt. And she loved that, she could never ask for anything better. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAaohhX9nGO7
Sometimes she remembers that she knew Cassian before all of this. That cold September morning when she arrived at his house. When Harper and she had just met. She smiled to herself, and walked out the shop and went to walk along the beach reminiscing those days when she was carefree and happy.
09.14.2006 Willow's End, Maine.
It had only been a few days since they've met, but it seemed as if they knew each other since forever. Harper had been the new girl at school for probably a week, and Emery was drawn to her. She seemed sweet, and kind. They became the best of friends in days. It was her first time visiting Harper, so it'd be weird. She didn't know Harper had a brother, until they entered and her mom told her to tell Cassian that he couldn't go into her room today. They had run upstairs, giggling and laughing when she opened the door. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAfbIu02ZRCa
"Cassian, mom said you can't go into my room today." She peaked through the door. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAchvApHpD6R
He was handsome, not much older than them. Probably at least twelve. Dark hair, and sharp eyes. Too sharp for someone so young. He said something Emery couldn't quite hear for a moment, but she guessed she had to introduce herself. Harper pulled her probably thinking the same thing. She appeared next to her. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAKgxkMA3W3Z
"Hi, I'm Emery Kane, Harper's best friend." She said, smiling. She didn't know if she had done something wrong, his jaw clenched and looked back at Harper. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAcV67hk9XYP
"Cool, are you two gonna stand there in the doorway or are y'all gonna leave?" He asked, already closing the door on them. They ran down the hall, giggling until they reached her room. Harper closed the door, and pulled out her sketchbook. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAUMMPcH1u6U
"So, that's your brother?" Emery asked, sitting on the rug. Harper nodded, drawing something quick. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAldvcG6sF5L
"Yup, but let's not talk about him. He's just a weird person who isolates himself from the world. No biggy. By the way, I think he has colored pencils in his room. I'll be right back." She stood up, and walked out the room. Emery sat there, thinking. He didn't seem weird, distant yes, not weird. She wondered if they'd ever be friends. Not that she cared, maybe she did. Her thoughts were cut when Harper yelled something. 13Please respect copyright.PENANACGqgagXR3i
"Mom! Dad! He's doing it again!." Emery tilted her head, doing what? The house was filled with yelling, and she flinched. She wasn't used to yelling, except for her dad's yells while he watches hockey. But this. Sobbing noises came from down the hall, and she peaked. She saw what she guessed was Harper's dad walk out Cassian's room, the belt he had in his hand a bit stained. Harper came back and sat down. 13Please respect copyright.PENANACdJvUR7P1m
"Sorry about that."13Please respect copyright.PENANA3SxvouHvv6
"It's fine." 13Please respect copyright.PENANAGclFeHwGVA
One day she'd talk to him, get to know him. Know him for who he really is. Both good and bad side. She'd find out who he really is, and she'd never forget him.
07.03.2018 Present Day Portland, Maine.
She opened her eyes, looking at the waves crash on the rocks. She sighed, she knew him back then. But now she knows him, actually knows him. The breeze tangled in her hair, as she stared out onto the horizon. Emery smiled bittersweetly at the moon, thinking it was funny how they knew each other. Harper never mentioned Cassian after that day, she didn't know why. But she never bothered to ask, but now she wanted to know why. She wanted to know what he really is, where he really comes from. She passed by a food store buying a small instant soup cup and some snacks she had promised. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAtXeprPLAXm
Emery opened the door, Cassian snuggled up against the pillow in bed. She smiled softly, this was the boy that cried all those years ago. And now this was the boy that was hers. Hers. She sat next to him, moving his dark curls away from his eyes. He opened his eyes slowly. 13Please respect copyright.PENANAvf3MQn8n8b
"You're back."13Please respect copyright.PENANAVGTCdumMdk
"I brought you what I promised. Keep resting." She says, kissing his temple and closing the door. She stood in the kitchen knowing that she had a safe haven. And she called it Cassian.
