It's been two days since they got to Portland, mostly the beach. Two days since Cassian's mental breakdown. Emery still didn't know what it meant, or why he had it. But she knew that whatever it was, she'd be there if it ever happened again. Fourth of July was in three days. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAw0CuIyDQFl
The board walk wasn't as full tonight, which was perfect for walking around and exploring. Cassian walked close to Emery. She still couldn't get his words out of her head 'I love you' and for a moment she believed him. Maybe because she felt the same, but her whole life she's taught herself never to get her hopes up. Especially when it comes to love. She kept telling herself that she shouldn't trust Cassian, but these past few weeks with him it's getting harder not to. Especially when he acts like this. All caring, as if he actually cares. Her mind was convinced that he was a bad person, but another half of her mind was convinced he was a good person. And the constant turmoil made her choose the good side over the bad side. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAwLyHBn6wJs
"Hey, Emery. What if we go to the Aquarium? Heard they have plenty of jellyfish there. Those are your favorite right? Moon jellyfish?" He asked, she blinked in surprise at how he had remembered that small detail about her. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAvrhhAlD1R5
"Right, they are my favorite."21Please respect copyright.PENANAE6YX0hx24c
"Then it's a date, c'mon." He grabbed her hand, interlocking their fingers as they walked to the Aquarium. He bought two tickets, and led Emery towards the jellyfish first. She stared in awe as they floated and glided in the water. Her eyes glowed, a little childlike smile spread across her face, Cassian chuckled softly. He stared at her in affection, not believing she was real. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAbOTTqv8w6x
"You shouldn't have brought me here."21Please respect copyright.PENANAo8YzeNuhW3
"But I wanted to, you look pretty under the reflection of the water." He said, walking alongside her as she went through the shark tunnel, it was empty which meant it'd probably be best if something happened right? But before he could even make up his mind, Emery was already walking towards the next exhibition. He shook his head and followed. The Aquarium was starting to get empty, but Emery seemed to be in love with everything, they walked around the Aquarium about three times.21Please respect copyright.PENANAfOUExGWH4p
"C'mon, little ghost. It's been two hours." He said, standing next to her as she stared at the crabs. She groaned. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAdP6xW8aol0
"Fine, but can we go to the shark tunnel one more time? I wanna take pictures, please." She said, giving him the biggest puppy eyes anyone could give. He sighed, thinking it was impossible with her. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAqU3phxAABu
"Okay okay, but stop looking at me like that." He muttered, she grinned leading the way back to the shark tunnel. She looked at the sharks swim around, never once noting Cassian's gaze on her. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAOIzMvmAxPL
"Did you know that sharks have to keep swimming in order to stay alive? They're like, the wolves of the sea. They hunt in packs." She drifted off into her own world, talking about nerdy and quirky facts. As if she had never been able to talk about it with anyone. She kept talking, until Cassian stopped her grabbing her hand and turning her to face him. Emery blinked, looking up at him. He smiled. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAmmh3l1dY2I
"As much as I love your shark talk, there's other things that I'd like to talk about." He says, leaning closer. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAXBHUXug6Qa
"And that is?"21Please respect copyright.PENANAt1Mko3I6A3
"For starters, how come you knew about this and never once told me?"21Please respect copyright.PENANA94gZOHSdrS
"Because well we were so focused on Ian that I thought you wouldn't care enough." She mumbles, looking away. He chuckles, bringing a hand to her face and making her look at him. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAcjJtWQL4XN
"Not true, see? You don't know me that well, of course I'd care. As long as it's you, I care. Besides, there's secrets I've held in my heart for too long. I thought they'd be easy to hide, but it was harder than I thought." He leaned closer. "And one of those secrets have been you. Emery June Kane." He looked straight into her eyes, Emery stared back. Her heart beating ten thousand miles per hour. She didn't know what to say, nor do. Just stare at him, she's a secret in his heart. Is that why he told her he loves her? She shouldn't trust him, but God it was hard. And before they both knew it, his lips were on hers. Soft, hesitant, like it might just break the whole universe in a whole go. Emery's eyes closed, kissing back. Time seemed to slow, just them in their own twisted world. 21Please respect copyright.PENANA7Iz9VRHsAq
Cassian pulled away, looking at her with half hooded eyes. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAf655Ua8FQe
"And as far as I know, we'll get through this. Together, I love you little ghost. From the moment you punched me, sounds a bit cliche doesn't it?" He jokes, his thumb stroking her cheek. She giggles. 21Please respect copyright.PENANA328qEH7OFt
"You're so corny for no reason." She joked back, hitting his arm playfully.
They walked out into the night air, the faint scent of the sea mixed with the salty breeze created a safe haven for Emery. She walked hand in hand with Cassian, with all the strings attached. No more hiding, no more pretending. It was real now, if only they knew what they had had just shaken the entire Covenant, they wouldn't be like this right now. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAcAUJHQzml7
Back home, the mist-weavers whispered amongst themselves. This was horrible, extremely horrible. He had fallen for the next in line, and that always means bad news. It had happened in every generation before, it had happened to his parents. And now them. 21Please respect copyright.PENANA870tOoGGMX
Emery opened the door, and set the keys down. Cassian closed the door and took of his coat. She walked into the kitchen, and opened the fridge. Cassian watched her from the kitchen island and smiled. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAKLCk2mYoaI
"So what're you doing now, hm?"21Please respect copyright.PENANAnKZ2LXi4qU
"A midnight snack." She said, cutting a few peaches into a bowl. He nodded, coming behind her and wrapping his arms around her waist. She hummed softly, moving to wash the knife and leaving it in the sink. He kissed her neck softly. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAYMrjM09rCu
"Well I'm gonna be laying down, scream if the mist gets too close." He said, walking to the room. She rolled her eyes, and went into the living room and sat on the couch. She watched the shore from inside. Watching as the mist recoiled every now and then. But as long as it wasn't close to her, nor him. They'd be safe, they'd be fine. They wouldn't have to worry about anything. Not really, not until the day came. She didn't know when that day would be; but it'd be soon enough she knew that. 21Please respect copyright.PENANAlCtKRGSZdr
"If the mist burns, then so will I." Emery whispered, and stood up going to the room. She laid down next to Cassian and sighed. She closed her eyes, the night was still young. But the hunt had just begun.
