I hate that I can’t cry,

unless my bottle explodes.

The bottle in my chest,

Coiled like a spring,

Absorbing emotions like a sponge,

Always there,

Never missing.

The smallest things set the explosion off.

I hate that I can’t cry when I hurt.

I hate that I can’t cry when I’m sad.

I hate that I have to be perfect,

Never losing,

Good grades,

Best times in sports,

The quiet friend you can lean on for support,

When I can’t even get through my own problems.

All because of my own standards.

Never sharing the pain,

A comforting ache,

A comforting sadness,

A comforting relief,

A comforting smile,

A comforting feeling,

The one constant in my life.

Why must I bottle my feelings?

Why do I need the constant ache?
