Analysis
The episode demonstrates how strategically Gennou set up his traps with ease. In other words, he is a skilled shinobi, as I will show in the details.
A bird drops nearly all the stolen blueprints all over the village, serving as a diversion from Gennou’s true plan. Dramatic music plays in the background with a mix of electric guitars as Shikamaru instructs Naruto and Choji to collect the blueprints from the sky. First, Naruto activated his Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu, where a lot of clones collected the blueprints. Second, Choji activated his Partial Expansion Jutsu to collect the blueprints. Last, Shikamaru looked for the bird, but it was long gone.
Meanwhile, at the Hokage headquarters, Tsunade is informed about the Gennou situation by various people:
Shizune informed Tsunade about the blueprints falling from the sky and told her that Shikamaru and his squad had been collecting them all over the village, managing to recover all of them. Currently, Shikamaru, Choji, and Naruto have returned all the blueprints to the foreman carpenter’s house.
A jonin ninja came afterwards, informing Tsunade that the forces who were at the border close to the village hidden in the waterfalls had found out that the villagers were just part of a training exercise. In other words, they had no intention of invading them. There was no connection between that and Gennou, so Tsunade suspended the security alert and ordered everyone back to the Leaf Village.
Sakura informs Tsunade that the body that the ANBU Black Corps thought was Gennou was not Gennou. In other words, the ANBU were fooled.
Considering the points above, Gennou’s tactics start to unravel; hence, it is a resolution.
While Sakura informed Tsunade about the fake dead body, Ino went to the foreman’s carpenter’s house and informed Shikamaru that the dead body was not Gennou. In response, Shikamaru assumes that he had someone else’s body to switch for his own, and Ino says that at the medical centre, the dead body has a similar body type to Gennou’s, but there are distinct differences; they are still examining it. In other words, Gennou is still alive, and to support this, the following information will show how he escaped the suicide explosion.

Tenten, Kiba, Shino, Rock Lee, and Neji are in the woods where Gennou supposedly committed the suicide bombing.
Neji activated his Byakugan to check for any clues, and after some time, he found something. So, he told Lee to look under a fallen tree. Afterwards, Lee removes the tree and finds a hidden tunnel; hence, Gennou had an escape tunnel all this time. He disguised it well, and if it wasn’t for Neji’s Byakugan, they wouldn’t have found it. Furthermore, Tenten said, “He designed the tunnel so it would slowly collapse on itself on the way to the dirt. In another day or so, we would have never been able to find it, even with a byakugan. There wouldn’t have been a trace of it; he went through a lot of trouble to cover his tracks.” So Akamaru heads into the tunnel to check it; he can pick up his trail, but there is nothing, and they all wonder where Gennou is hiding. Gennou had thought of a plan all this time to fake his death so that he could proceed to set traps around the village. Therefore, Gennou represents an element of deception since he had everyone fooled into thinking that he died just so he could carry out his plans without any interruptions.
To support the idea that Gennou had thought of his plans from the get-go, Shikamaru said something significant. When he was conversing with the Hokage at her office, he said these words: “First, he stole the plans, then staged an elaborate, phoney suicide. He might have been hoping to draw our attention away from the village. All that activity on the border was a help. He must have known the village hidden in the waterfalls was planning that.” Gennou used the waterfall village as a distraction so that he could carry out his plans, as is evident when Shikamaru goes on to say, “One thing we do know is that the number of shinobi left in the village now is pathetically low. Everybody but the backup squad has been sent away on a wild goose chase, and everyone here is looking for the threat from the outside. Old man Gennou could be walking the streets right now, whistling a tune, and we wouldn’t even know a thing about it.” Moreover, Shikamaru said that Gennou scattering the blueprints all over the village was another diversion to keep them running in circles while he carried out his other plans. Therefore, Gennou is now a threat, so they must find ways to stop him.
For instance, Ino, who was also present at Tsunade’s office, suggested that they should find the traps. She goes on to say that the Genin will check the Ninja Academy because, of all the building sites Gennou has worked on, the academy is the only one whose plans were stolen. At that moment, we see Ino, who played a crucial role in preventing the academy from having an explosion.
At the academy, the team was set out in pairs:
Hinata and Sakura stand outside the academy. Hinata activated her Byakugan to check for traps, but she saw nothing unusual, so they planned to move to the next section.
Neji and Kiba, who are accompanied by Akamaru, are inside the academy, close to the classrooms. Neji activated his Byakugan to check for traps, but he saw nothing unusual yet.
Naruto and Choji are in the classrooms. Naruto told the kids to go outside, but they didn’t want to because their teacher instructed them to stay in the classroom and study all day. Therefore, Choji resorted to activating his Expansion Jutsu to get the kids out.
Tenten and Rock Lee are on top of the roofs, checking for anything amiss, but so far there’s nothing. However, Rock Lee saw the kids running to the practice hall for kunai training, and somehow he had a strange feeling that something was amiss. So, he decided to check with Naruto and Choji, which compelled them to go to the practice hall.
The group discovers that a kunai target in the academy dojo is the trigger for explosive tags in the academy and that explosive tags are planted across the village. At the practice hall, the kids were practising their kunai training. After some time, while Choji, Rock Lee, and Naruto were watching them, Choji noticed something strange about the kunai target and assumed that Gennou might have put it there. So, Naruto headed out to find Neji to check the target with his Byakugan. Meanwhile, when Neji was with Kiba outside the classrooms, he told Kiba that there was a paper bomb hidden inside the sections. He said to Kiba, “The paper bomb has a long thread attached to it. Not just any thread; more than likely it’s a fuse, allowing someone to set off the bomb from far away.” Moreover, he said the fuse leads to a pole, which Naruto confirmed was a kunai target when he arrived. In response, Neji said to Naruto that it was an explosive device, so Kiba, Neji, and Naruto rushed to the practice hall, hoping that the kids hadn’t hit their target yet. If the kunai knife hits the target, it will trigger the detonator, and the academy will explode. Luckily, they arrived in time to tell Lee to stop the kunai knife from landing on the target, and Rock Lee managed to stop the kunai from hitting the target in a matter of seconds.
Afterwards, all the Genin gather around to tell each other about the kunai target. Shikamaru was informed that the kunai target was a triggering device hidden inside, waiting to be set off by a direct hit on the target. Luckily, they stopped it. Moreover, it seems Gennou put the kids in a genjutsu to put the thought of training in the kids’ minds. This just proves how Gennou had a plan from the get-go. To make matters worse, Hinata said, when she looked at the explosive device, there was more than one fuse leading to it. Therefore, it compelled her and Neji to go outside and stand on the roof of the academy. When they both activated their Byakugan, they found out that there was no end to the fuse because the whole village was covered with paper bombs. When the rest of the group heard this, they were all stunned because the entire Leaf Village was a giant nest for paper bombs. The episode ends in suspense. What will happen next?
