“The Cursed Warrior”
“Tsunade sends Naruto, Neji, and Tenten to the Land of Birds to investigate reports of a ghost, Noroimusha, terrorising the local population. Upon arriving, they learn that the daimyō has died and that his son, the successor, cares little about his duties due to the recent death of his sister. Later that evening, the Konoha ninja encountered Noroimusha and gave chase. After cornering it, however, an examination by Neji’s Byakugan makes the group realise that the armour the Noroimusha is wearing is empty.”

Analysis
The following analysis will look at more details about the Land of Birds. It will also look at other information about the cursed warrior.
At the Hokage’s office, Tsunade, Kakashi, and Shizune discussed the mission request from the Land of Birds. This mission is too far from the Hidden Leaf Village, and when Tsunade wanted to refuse, a man named Chishima insisted and begged Tsunade to take the mission. He wouldn’t take no for an answer, as he had spent all his money on this request. Therefore, Tsunade ended up giving in.

Chishima talks about his friendship with Sagi.
Meanwhile, while Naruto is eating at Ramen Ichiraku, he meets the man Chishima, who seems hungry, so Naruto decides to pay for his food. After they finished eating, they sat on a bench, where Chishima revealed some details about his village. First, he told Naruto that his friend was in trouble. Chishima went on further by saying, “Sagi and I have been close since we were little; we were raised like brothers, and he’s now the lord of the land of birds.” Second, he also said, “We grew up together, and our bond is as strong as that of brothers, but I’m merely his friend.” Last, he said, “Well, anyway, things have been very hard for my friend Sagi recently, first with the death of his father, Lord Owashi, and then his twin sister died shortly after, and now the friend I once knew, always smiling and always cheerful, has become like a different person. He won’t show his face in the village, even when I visit him. This change in him worries the others because Sagi is the lord of our land. I don’t care about all that; I’m worried because he’s my friend. I would do anything to help him, to bring him back again, no matter the cost.”
Naruto can relate to his situation because it’s almost similar to his situation with Sasuke. Sasuke has changed into a different person since he left to pursue Orochimaru, and Naruto still worries about him and has high hopes that he will bring him back. After hearing Chishima’s story, he feels compelled to assist Chishima because he doesn’t want him to feel a sense of losing his friend. Naruto lets him know that he will sort it out. Naruto’s empathy for others will one day help him towards his goal of being Hokage.
Before leaving for the mission, at the Hokage’s office, Tsunade gave Naruto some brief details about the mission. She said, “Their land is being haunted. They call it a cursed warrior, a ghost wearing white armour that appears in the dead of night, or so they say.” Before Tsunade could finish, Naruto cowered under the table because he was scared. When he stands up, his legs start to shiver after hearing about the ghost. He asked Tsunade if Ninjutsu would even work on the ghost, and Shizune responded by saying that he would be the first to find out. Ironically, Naruto is afraid of ghosts when he has a nine-tailed beast inside of him that is more frightening! Moreover, Naruto, Tenten, and Neji are going on a mission based on some kind of mystery.

Upon arriving, they learn that the daimyō has died and that his son, the successor, cares little about his duties due to the recent death of his sister. The genin left the Hidden Leaf Village with Chishima, who guided them toward their destination, the Land of Birds. Since it is a long journey, around nighttime, they decide to rest by setting up their tents, and then they eat. After they finished eating, Neji asked Chishima to tell them the history of their clan and their background. Chishima started telling them the full story about his clan.

The History of the Land of Birds
Chishima said, “It’s called the Land of Birds because our capital is built on a lake to which the birds come when they migrate. It’s always been a green and peaceful place made fertile by the waters from the lake and the many canals. The first signs of trouble came with the sudden death of our previous leader, Lord Owashi. Master Hu would take over the leadership; it was between his son, Lord Sagi, and his most trusted adviser, Lord Komei. Lord Komei argued that Sagi was far too young to assume the role, and many agreed with him. Nevertheless, Lord Sagi was eventually chosen largely because Moso, our high priest and my master, agreed to act as regent, advising Sagi on how to govern. Then, less than half a year later, Lady Toki, Sagi’s twin sister, died as suddenly as his father. Since that time, the Sagi I knew has become a completely different person; he’s retreated from view since no one governs the land from within the confines of his palace, and it was about that time that the white warrior began appearing in the capital. Rumours started to spread about Lord Owashi’s death, that it was not a natural one. People began to say that the white warrior was the spirit of Lord Owashi and would come back to earth to wreak vengeance on the traitors who murdered him.”
After hearing the story, Neji doesn’t believe that this spirit is real. Instead, he suspects that the priest may be involved since he gained the most from Lord Owashi’s death. Tenten and Naruto, on the other hand, suspect it is Lord Komei, the advisor. Tenten suspects that he could have assassinated Owashi to gain power, and then got angry when it didn’t work. Chishima confirms her suspicions, saying that he has been complaining bitterly ever since Lord Sagi was chosen over him. Moreover, Chishima also said that he wouldn’t put it past him to manufacture the cursed warrior himself and then start these evil rumours. As an audience, we wonder who is involved. Could it be Moso, the priest, since he gained the most from Lord Owashi’s death, or could it be Lord Kemei, the advisor who wanted to gain power, or could it be the cursed warrior in the spirit of Lord Owashi? All these questions remain unanswered until one watches the next episode.
Later that evening, the Konoha ninja encountered Noroimusha and gave chase. After cornering it, however, an examination by Neji’s Byakugan makes the group realise that the armour the Noroimusha is wearing is empty. When they encountered it, they realised that it could fly. When they chase after the cursed warrior, it enters a small building where Neji’s Byakugan couldn’t detect the presence of a living human. Afterwards, a door opens and the cursed warrior reveals himself. As a result, Naruto and Tenten start to attack him.
First, Naruto tossed various kunai at him, but his attacks were ineffective in hurting the cursed warrior. Second, Tenten summons her ninja tools and cuts off its head, but her attacks are also ineffective since the cursed warrior is still walking. Therefore, Naruto activates his Shadow Clone Jutsu: Uzumaki Barrage, and he seemingly defeats the cursed warrior. This is evident when he breaks the armour, and when they realise that the armour is empty, it dawns on them that they might be dealing with a ghost. This frightens Naruto, and he starts screaming. What will happen next? Is the ghost gone? Are Moso or Lord Komei somehow involved in Lord Owashi’s death? We are left in suspense until we watch the next episode.
The lesson from this episode is that when it comes to true friendship, friends worry about each other, as is evident when Chishima wants to help his friend Sagi since he is acting differently. It’s the same with Naruto, who is worried about Sasuke and is determined to bring him back to the village.
