Analysis
The following analysis will mainly focus on Sasuke’s childhood memories:
Sasuke and Naruto’s fight progresses slowly as Sasuke continues to remember his childhood. Naruto activated his Shadow Clone Jutsu to fight against Sasuke. However, due to Sasuke’s Sharingan, he noticed the real Naruto. As the fight progressed, Sasuke used his fire style, Fireball Jutsu. Afterwards, the title of the episode appears. It is important to note that before Sasuke started remembering his childhood, he used the fireball jutsu. It leaves one curious to know more about this; hence, his memories will show how he mastered the Fire Ball jutsu.
In his memories, Sasuke learns the Fire Ball jutsu, thus gaining his father’s attention, as Fugaku Uchiha tells him not to follow his brother’s footsteps. A lot has happened since this quotation. When Sasuke saw Itachi’s Sharingan, he noticed that it was no ordinary Sharingan. Furthermore, ever since Itachi’s rebellion, he noticed something was wrong with his big brother. For instance, in the morning, Itachi passed through the passage without greeting Sasuke or Fugaku.
Therefore, due to the strained relationship between Itachi and Fugaku, he finally takes notice of Sasuke. Sasuke’s father taught him the Great Fireball Technique to give him legitimate clan membership. Sasuke said in his mind, “Father is teaching me the jutsu himself. He is finally giving me a chance to show him I matter too. I can’t disappoint him.” Again, Sasuke is happy that his father is finally taking notice; hence, he has high respect for his father. Despite failing the jutsu the first time, Sasuke continues to train until he masters it.
For example, during the full moon, tense music plays loudly in the background as Sasuke continues to train the fireball jutsu. Remembering his father’s disappointment keeps him motivated to try again. So in the morning, he asked his father to watch him do the jutsu. The amount of boldness shows a change in Sasuke, and that might have made him the person he is today. He went from feeling sorry for himself for disappointing his father to working hard and proving to his father that he could master the jutsu. As a result, tense music continues to play throughout as Sasuke prepares to do the fireball jutsu. Before doing the jutsu, Sasuke said in his mind, “Failure is not an option.” Afterwards, Sasuke did it! His jutsu is massive, and after seeing this, his father seems to have a perplexed look on his face; hence, music stops playing in the background.
However, his father walks away, and he seemingly looks disappointed until Fugaku says these heartfelt words in a moderate or soft voice: “Now then, that’s my boy.” Sasuke is happy inside; hence, a Japanese flute plays in the background to signify positivity. Moreover, Fugaku said to him, “You’ve done well. Work hard, and you’re bound to soar high and to bring honour to the crest you wear on your back.” At that moment, there was an element of change when his father stopped comparing him to Itachi; hence, it was a wonderful moment for Sasuke, who smiled a bit. However, his father said something strange. He said, “From now on, walk your path. Not in the footsteps of your brother.” This may mean that he noticed his mistake with Itachi when he sort of pressured him to do other things, like missions. It may explain Itachi’s rebellion, or it’s just because their relationship is strained.
He then starts to wonder if he is only going to replace his brother. His mother confirms everything else is okay, however. After doing this, he remembers heading to school and deciding that he would not lose to Itachi. Sasuke vents to his mom, worrying that he might have to replace Itachi because of the strained relationship between Itachi and his father. She assures him that his father loves them both. To put his worries at ease, his mother said something significant. She told him a secret, saying, “When we’re alone and no one is around, the only one he talks about is you. He has a hard time showing it. It’s how he is.” Therefore, the mom helps with the development of the story as the audience learns that the father adores his children. It also changed the perception of the audience. Therefore, Sasuke trains to be the best shinobi he can be, promising himself that he will be as good as Itachi.
Sasuke, who is having problems with his Shuriken Jutsu, asks Itachi to assist him in his training when his brother leaves the house. In response, Itachi said that he was busy before tapping Sasuke on the head. As he walks away, Sasuke is relieved that he doesn’t appear to have changed much. Later, he inquires about Sharingan with his father, since he wishes to master it as well. Fugaku tells him of the Mangekyo Sharingan, which has only been possessed by two members of the Uchiha Clan thus far. It’s only turned on when certain conditions are met. The Mangekyo Sharingan is a visual jutsu that is a level above the Sharingan. It’s an almost legendary jutsu that only a few have been able to master. Therefore, one questions the significance behind it and what makes it special, which is revealed in the next episode.
The audience also learns more about Itachi’s character. This is shown when Sasuke asks his father why Itachi is always cold to him. His father responded, saying, “He’s a peculiar one, your brother. He never cared about being liked, making friends, or any of that.” It makes one curious about the Itachi character, which is revealed in the anime “Naruto Shippuden.”
In the present time, Naruto and Sasuke begin to fight. Naruto hides behind a bush in the present as Sasuke teases him about his ignorance. Before falling into the water underneath them, he lands multiple punches and a final crushing hit to Naruto’s ribs. Did Naruto survive the fall? The audience is left in suspense until they watch the next episode.
The episode was well explained to show how Sasuke learned the fireball jutsu and that Fugaku Uchiha cares about Sasuke the same way he cares about Itachi. I also liked how Sasuke’s mother showed Sasuke that his father cares about him.
The lesson from this episode is that one should walk their path and not try to be someone else. For example, Fugaku Uchiha gave Sasuke advice about walking his path instead of being like Itachi.
