Analysis
The following analysis will explain in detail what happened in the battle between Kidomaru and Neji.
Kidomaru manages to shield himself from the attack and flees to the safety of the neighbouring trees. At the beginning of the episode, Neji used his Eight Trigrams, Sixty-Four Palms; hence, the music in the background is mixed with drums and an electric guitar. Moreover, the music intensifies as Neji strikes Kidomaru with each blow using his gentle fist. Therefore, Kidomaru kept his distance because he knew the minute he got close to Neji, he would lose the battle. Therefore, the enemy flees to the safety of the neighbouring trees, which proves that Neji is skilled when it comes to taijutsu.
Deciding to attack Neji from a distance, Kidomaru advances his seal to its first level and sends multiple spiders to attack Neji. The term “first-level” refers to the curse mark. Accompanied by drums and an electric guitar playing in the background, it signified that Kidomaru had gotten stronger. In response to Kidomaru advancing his curse mark, Neji activated his Byakugan and noted that Kidomaru’s chakra was staggering. In other words, it is astonishing, which explains the abilities of Orochimaru’s curse mark. It can make someone strong, hence why Sasuke is seeking power from Orochimaru. He needs the power so that he can get his revenge on Itachi Uchiha.
Kidomaru uses a summoning jutsu. For instance, he summons a massive spider so that he can send multiple spiders to attack Neji. Therefore, once again, the audience knows the advantage of the curse mark in the sense that using a summoning jutsu requires a lot of chakra. For example, in other episodes, Jiraiya was teaching Naruto the summoning jutsu. However, Naruto could not use his chakra, so he had to use the Nine-Tails Chakra to summon Gamabantu, the huge toad. Therefore, the curse mark provides massive power of chakra; hence, in this case, Kidomaru is stronger than Neji.
Neji can repel them all, though Kidomaru notices a delayed reaction in some of Neji’s blocks. Neji used eight trigrams of palm rotation to rebel against the attacks. It is crucial to note that Neji’s jutsu is a unique jutsu that is only used by the Hyuga Clan. However, there was a delayed reaction in some of Neji’s blocks because he had used up a lot of his energy and chakra. Therefore, Neji’s jutsu has a disadvantage since it uses a lot of his chakra; hence, one has a better understanding of Hyuga’s jutsu, an eight-trigram palm rotation.
He theorizes that Neji’s defence has a blind spot, and he attacks him further from this blind spot. His theory is proven correct, as Neji is unable to block the attack. Believing himself to have found Neji’s weakness, Kidomaru prepares to finish the battle. When Kidomaru noticed that Neji had a blind spot, he decided to take advantage of that. For instance, he attacks from afar because he knows that if he gets close to Neji, he will be defeated. Therefore, he does the following things: First, he solidifies his spiderwebs into spikes. Second, he sends multiple spikes to attack Neji from behind. Third, he sends multiple spiders to attack Neji. At that moment, Kidomaru is shown to be clever because he is taking advantage of Neji’s weakness.
On the other hand, Neji advances his jutsu to eight trigrams: 128 palms. This means that the number of blows Neji strikes the spiders has doubled. Yet Neji is still unable to block the attacks because he has used up most of his chakra. Therefore, Kidomaru prepares to finalise the battle.
However, there is a shift when Neji refuses to give up. In that moment of weakness, Neji remembers Rock Lee, Hinata, and Naruto refusing to give up whenever they were fighting against him. Therefore, Rock Lee, Hinata, and Naruto play a huge part in this episode as they compel Neji not to give up. In this case, Neji is shown to be courageous, which makes the audience gravitate towards him. In other words, he is a dynamic character who has shown growth in terms of his perception of never giving up.
Kidomaru sends a huge spider to attack Neji. However, due to Neji’s determination to win the fight, he destroys the spider using his gentle fist. Afterwards, Kidomaru sends multiple spikes to attack Neji. However, Neji does not give up. Therefore, this compelled Kidomaru to switch to the second level of the curse mark, where, in this state, he looks like a mutant. Moreover, as he is in the process of attacking using a bow and arrow, the episode ends in an anti-climax.
The episode was mainly focused on Kidomaru and Neji. Both of them were presented well to showcase their abilities.
