To take advantage of this opportunity, they decided not to inform the others, but Zekryo also preferred this approach to avoid putting his comrades' lives at risk.
What they were doing was drastic and irrational, but Kaci was right; it was his son, too. No matter what happened, he was going to take him back.
Once they were in range, Kaci threw down a sensory barrier designed to prevent outsiders from sensing what happened inside. Zekryo knew it took a while to get it sent by one of her connections on another planet, but it was worth the wait and the price.
He's somewhere in there, Kaci said, full of certainty. What if they're torturing him to break his spirit?
Then we let him know his parents are here for him, Zekryo stated calmly as he initiated the attack with a technique called Imminent Glacier, where he created a massive floating glacier and dropped it over the manor. The goal was to cause enough destruction and spread enough cold to reach everywhere within the manor. Hopefully, it'd reach their son, letting him know that they were there in case he couldn't sense them.
However, that's not how things went as Aeric appeared outside, catching the glacier with one hand before shattering it into ice crystals that sparkled in the air.
"To attack my home...with me here no less. You two are quite the suicidal pair," Aeric called down from above his manor. "I'm intrigued, though. You must have a good reason to boldly come here."
"We want our child back," Kaci retorted angrily. Aeric rolled his eyes and nodded as if to say, "Ah, of course."
"I felt him for a moment. I know he's here," she declared, lightning crackling around her skin.
"Ah, so you're that brat's parents," Aeric gleamed with amusement. "This is better than I expected."
"They're the parents of that kid with the mouth? I was thinking of some good ways to torment him. Feeling the connection with his parents be severed ought to break him," Felix said with a twist of her lollipop as she and Fuse exited the manor.
"Keep them outside," he ordered, smirking at them. "Wouldn't want to give those kids false hope, would we?"
Felix was the first to move. She assessed Zekryo to be the bigger threat of the two due to his particular abilities and tried to go for him first, but her attack went straight through his head without him even bothering to move. He placed his palm firmly on her stomach and pushed, sending her flying into the manor.
"If this isn't wrapped up quickly, we risk them freeing some of the children or drawing too much attention," Fuse said aloud.
"I know. Better get to it," Aeric said, observing from above.
As Felix emerged through the rubble from the hole in the wall of the manor, Zekryo stood threateningly with Kaci by his side. Everyone noticed that the air had grown crisp and frigid as their breath became visible. Having remained composed for the sake of his people since the children's disappearance and needing a clear mind to lead, now that the culprits were before him, he let his rage flow.
Gleme – Small Village within the Kingdom of Protis
Michael looked around as he stood in the doorway. He noticed that most were clearly of the same species with certain identifiable features. There were one or two varied aliens there, but everyone else looked like...angels. They either had tan, brown, or pale skin or had clear signs of vitiligo, but they all shared certain features like blonde hair, pointed ears, and the very noticeable white-feathered wings on their backs.
He moved away from the door, bypassing people's lingering stares. He chose to find a seat at the bar and quietly used his aether link to see what he could learn about the planet.
Planet Gleme was part of a three-planet solar system called the Star System that was unlike most solar systems. The Star System was one half of a greater solar system called the Bright System, given its name due to it having three suns. The two smaller systems, the Star System and Inferno System, possessed their own individual suns, but both systems also orbited a much larger sun, being the only known solar system of its kind.
Planet Gleme was well known for being a world where it was rarely ever dark. According to the public information on plexus, Gleme only experienced nighttime for a brief 30-minute window every UST year. The planet's gravity was about 3 times that of Earth's, and its air density was only roughly 80% that of Earth's. The planet's native species were the starlings, the angelic individuals around him. That was all the useful information he could get from public viewing, unfortunately.
He noticed the bartender approaching him as she cleaned a drinking glass. She was a cute starling with vitiligo and white freckles. She seemed very carefree compared to the others.
"You have our skin but not our ears or hair. Or wings. You're a strange one, aren't ya? What species are you?"
She tilted her head quizzically and continued, "A pneumarian? No, you're not made of energy..."
"Klevonian," Michael smiled at her. "I'm Michael. Judging from your name tag, your name is Lega?"
Lega's eyebrows raised in shock. "You're not a zasshu, are you?"
Michael shook his head.
"Full klevonian. Only I was designed to look more human. It's a long story."
"Must be a hell of a story," she cackled, catching others' attention, then quieted down into a whisper. "Friendly warning: be careful. Most starlings don't like your kind. Curious what a klevonian is doing on Gleme anyway."
"There's disdain between starlings and klevonians?" Michael's interest was piqued. Understanding their standing with others could help as the group establishes itself on Cindar. Perhaps once things are settled, Alissia could use the knowledge to help determine a future for the Chimera District.
"As far as I know, it's just one way. Klevonians, pneumarians – starlings dislike you cindarians in general. Luckily, you don't look like any klevonian anyone's ever seen, so at first glance most will only be able to tell that you're not starling, but anyone skilled enough will immediately see that you're cindarian due to your um...spirit energy that's leaking from you."
"Thank you for the warning; however, whatever was done in the past has nothing to do with me. Perhaps I can show them that I'm not like those of the past."
"That's optimistic, but it's more of a belief thing. Teachings among starlings state that cosmic energies such as the star energy that we use, the void energy that the vakumites use, and even the sonans' and fotians' energy sources are pure because they're provided by the universe and our home planets. Meanwhile, self-energy, such as spirit energy or chaos energy, is tainted energy that originates not from the universe but from one's own selfish will and desires. You klevonians are even designed to steal the energy of your own kind to get stronger."
"Hm, can't argue with that...," Michael considered. "Coincidentally, getting stronger is part of why I'm here. I'm looking for someone skilled enough to help me control this power. Would you be so kind as to point me in the right direction?"
The woman's eyes lit up with excitement.
"Sure, but it'll cost ya," she held out a hand.
Michael was about to refuse her since he didn't have any of that planet's currency when he remembered that spendil was a universal currency. He reached into his spendil box and pulled out a small stack of bills.
"Is this enough?" he asked her, presenting the money to her.
"Whoa, you're seriously going to give it to me? I figured you'd say no, and we'd make a different deal or something," She looked at the money with awe, then shook herself out of it. "I can't accept that from you. Not the kind of girl I am," she pushed it back toward him. "Look, I kinda feel guilty now, so let me offer you a drink on the house. You're cute, so maybe I could make it up to you."
"With alcohol?" Michael asked obliviously. "That doesn't affect me, a side effect of my abilities."
"Seriously? Like at all?" she smiled as if she was given a challenge and then offered him their strongest drink and said, "Tell you what. If you can drink this without passing out, I'll point you in the right direction."
Michael found this suspicious. She seemed like a nice girl. Moral even. Was she trying to get him drunk so she could rob him, or was it genuine curiosity? He knew that he couldn't get drunk and was immune to poison regardless, and chose to have faith in her instead. If something happened, he'd deal with it then.
"I accept," he smiled as he lifted the white drink and drank it all.
"That drink is made with a high concentration of star fruit extract. If that doesn't affect you, nothing will," she beamed.
Michael immediately felt the heat from the drink spread through his chest as he quickly became impaired.
"This...," he stumbled, trying not to fall out of his seat.
"Even the strongest starlings passed out from that. That's some immune system you have," Lega stated, impressed as she helped keep him balanced for a moment. "Well, you didn't pass out, so a deal's a deal. You're looking for high-level starlings, the War Angels – our military. Starlings who're part of it are strong. Apart from the monarch family, they're the best."
Michael hiccupped and nodded, or thought he did, as he stored the information in his head.
Suddenly, the pub door opened, and a short, heavy-set, wealthy starling entered with two guards, making many nervous, fearful even. Enough to leave. Many of those who stayed smiled as they watched him, likely some of his biggest supporters.
"Great, the Governor's here now. He's a distant cousin to the last remaining Monarch family, so he's got some pull. Not that he's humble enough to ever let anyone forget," Lega said, leaning in. Then she walked off as the guy started scanning the pub.
The Governor eventually noticed Michael and actually spat before muttering something about klevonians.
"I've decided to sit there," he said to Michael, approaching him. "If you want a drink, you should go back to your uncultured cesspool of a world."
Michael blinked slowly, looking unfazed as he tried to concentrate on the guy without vomiting.
"You have six wings and three heads. That must be as nauseating for you as it is for me," Michael responded, squinting through the hallucinations.
The Governor ground his teeth and huffed.
"Do you know who I am!? I order you to kneel and kiss my feet. Otherwise, there will be trouble," the small man demanded, irritated at the clear disregard Michael showed.
Lacking any inhibition, Michael laughed at the Governor as he stood from his seat.
"I am Life itself, *hic*, yet you think I should kiss your feet? Isn't it you who should be kneeling before me?"
The Governor reached his breaking point and pulled a small weapon from his vest and, without hesitation, shot Michael. A thin beam of light pierced Michael's chest and left a burning hole in it, causing more people to flee in fear.
Those who stayed watched in confusion as Michael stood and rubbed his fingers around the edges of the open wound.
"Nngh," he groaned. He had a higher tolerance for pain than most klevonians, but it didn't negate the pain in the slightest. He winced a little as the hole quickly closed, then smirked drunkenly as he stumbled a bit. The Governor and his guards stepped back in skepticism.
"See, *hic*, now kneel."
The Governor went from an expression of bewilderment to trembling furiously as he pointed up at Michael.
"Attention, folks, this man does not belong here. He is a threat to us all and likely an ally summoned to aid the Visionists. As such, he is under suspicion of being a visionist sympathizer or possibly even one himself," he declared publicly, getting plenty of gasps from those in the pub. "Guards, I order you to kill him. We'll report this to the officials afterwards, but our people's well-being comes first."
"Oh, so I shouldn't have notified the police already?" Lega asked as she placed what Michael assumed was a telephone of sorts back into its latch on the back wall behind the bar. Judging from her sarcastic tone and wink at Michael, he figured she did that to ensure others were coming to investigate instead of letting the Governor twist things around.
"No, of course, you did the right thing," the Governor delivered a false smile, then grunted in a low voice to his guards, "Hurry up, you buffoons."
Both guards struck at Michael, but their strength and power proved insufficient to harm him. Seeing this, they pull out large weapons. Michael activated his hyper speed in tandem with his advanced perception, making everything look like it had frozen as he stood there. He didn't sense anything special about the weapons, so he doubted they'd even break his skin, but looking around, he could only imagine they would cause a lot of damage to the place and the people inside.
Michael clumsily but swiftly snatched the weapons away from the guards and gently pushed them aside, causing them to lift from the ground in slow motion. When he returned to normal speed, the two guards were shot through the pub's walls with great force.
Oh no, I only met to knock them back a few feet, Michael thought to himself. I'm not used to this strength yet.
"You insufferable..." the Governor seethed and threw insults at Michael after promising to make sure his life was ruined.
When the Governor tried to reach for his weapon again, Michael appeared before him and tried to gently swat the gun out of his hand, but the man's entire hand came off with it. The Governor wailed as blood sprayed across the floor. The gruesomeness was enough to catch even him off guard.
"Goodness, what have I done?" Michael's eyes went wide as he clasped his hands around the gushing wound. As much as he tried, he was too drunk to concentrate on healing, but he noticed the effects of the drink were waning. His body healing itself of the wound from earlier must've expedited the processing of the alcohol.
Michael looked around, a bit more sober now, and saw that everyone was afraid of him. Even drunk, he didn't enjoy being feared. He wanted to help others, not scare them.
Just then, two more starlings entered the establishment – police officers by the looks of their uniform.
Someone yelled, "Help the Governor! A visionist sympathizer attacked him!"
When the officers saw the collapsed Governor before him and the blood on his hands, they pulled out their guns and pointed them at Michael. While one of the officers called in for an emergency medical team, the other one slowly approached.
"Stand and back away from the Governor! You're under arrest for attacking and harming a royal, along with being under suspicion of terrorism!"
