"Don't worry. We can't kill each other here, so I avoided any vital spots," the klevonian said as she walked closer while staying within her barrier.
Are you okay? Viraa and Za'Fia asked me, their voices full of concern.
Yeah. I just wasn't expecting that. I had a hole in each of my shoulders and thighs. Those needles felt odd. Did you notice it too?
I did. It was like they were there but not. Either way, we cannot let her do that again, or you may lose.
I struggled to my feet.
That feeling... I want to assume the attacks inflicted on the doll are replicated immediately to her target so they can't be evaded. But when the wounds were inflicted on me, I could sense the presence of the needles for the briefest second.
I sensed it too, Avarice inputted. Perhaps the needles are invisible and hover around the target. They sync with however she moves the smaller ones over the doll.
That would mean that her strikes are possible to dodge, Za'Fia said hopefully.
Yeah, but they were able to get through Stasis Field without breaking it... I said.
Oh ho! The needles aren't of this dimension! Viraa proclaimed excitedly. Not until they come in contact with the target, at least. I do believe I know what cintracy she possesses now. Spectral Pin: it is a mystic cintracy that has three properties. One being able to generate powerful barriers. The other being a manifestation in the form of an indestructible doll and spatial needles, and the third being spiritual linking. Together, the user can protect themselves while spiritually linking their target to the doll and using it to inflict damage on them. The needles only leave their separate dimension when the user-controlled needle touches the doll, but that makes it difficult for the target to dodge. However, as Za'Fia pointed out, with vigilance, one can predict the trajectory and avoid them.
"But in my case," my eyes glowed dark blue as I activated Temporal Sight. I could see that in the next few seconds, she would use the needles to strike me through the back and my shoulders again.
"No point in dragging this out now. One or two others I need to defeat to prove myself," she said as she struck the doll again.
This time, I was ready, though. I side-stepped and maneuvered from the paths of the needles, safely avoiding their strikes before applying spatial energy to my hands and actually grabbing one as it entered our dimension to pierce me. The two spatial energies interfered with one another as I held the large needle before me.
The crowd roared in excitement as the commentator yelled, "Whoa! Spatial Energy!? There aren't many who can use one of the four cosmic energies! Looks like there's more to the newest Crest Head than we expected, folks!"
"How..." the girl seethed angrily.
"I can see through your attacks," I told her, "And since I'm a lot more powerful, I'm betting I can do this too." I focused a lot of spatial energy into the needle I held and closed my fist until it shattered.
"Noo!" the girl screamed as one of the needles over the doll vanished. "I didn't know you could use spatial energy..."
"And now to get you out of that barrier..." I said as I created an enclosed spatial barrier inside the girl's barrier. Doing this forced her barrier to deactivate, leaving the klevonian speechless.
"Anything enclosed in my spatial barriers technically enters an adjacent dimension to this one," I explained to her. "Your power won't reach outside there so long as you remain in there."
With that, I aimed an index finger at her and focused a concussive force that I shot at her head. I perfectly timed my barrier to lower so she'd have no time to evade, resulting in a square hit that knocked her unconscious.
"And out goes another!" the commentator went on.
After her body sank into the ground, I looked down at my wounds and clogged them with spirit energy for the time being.
You and Tymon have taken a liking to my little trick, Avarice mused.
It's a handy technique, I have to admit, I responded reluctantly.
I was glad I was able to avoid transforming, but considering my opponent found a way past my defenses despite me being more powerful, it wouldn't have helped me avoid those injuries even if I had. I'd have to be smart about how I approached certain opponents.
I looked around and saw that many more klevonians had already been eliminated. There were more berserker initiates remaining than phoenix, but one of the phoenix initiates was defeating one after another without much effort. He was able to dodge every attack thrown at him. It was odd...something was off about the way he fought. It looked as if he would casually throw punches or shoot fire that should've been easy to dodge, yet no one did...
Very quickly, there were only a few klevonians left standing, and it was clear this powerful klevonian was the most imposing of the bunch. He fought in a hybrid form with flaming wings and real talons, catching many of us off guard. From what I can tell, his strength and speed were roughly around the same as mine in my evolved state, but he was twice as powerful. Some of the berserker initiates looked as if they wanted to flee, but they pushed forward only to be wiped out the next instant.
Why is a klevonian who already has a mark participating? I wondered.
He was likely sent to gatekeep for the Phoenix Crest, but it appears his klevonian drive for battle has slowly caused him to lose sight of his main objective—a low-ranking klevonian for sure.
"Forget about him! We'll focus on taking out the new klevonian Crest Head," one of the berserker initiates told one of his other two remaining allies.
"That's not happening. She's ours. We need to make up for losing so many to you uncouth mongrels," two phoenix initiates arrived. Aside from the one with a mark, they were the last four remaining of the phoenix initiates.
"Uh oh! It's four against one! Will she be okay!? What else does she have up her sleeve? Let's see how she gets herself out of this mess!"
I noticed the imposing klevonian was now standing, cross-armed as he observed the situation.
Each of the klevonians before me leaped at me, trying to be the one to take me out, but my Stasis Field held each of them midair. Two among them were smart enough to use spirit enhancement, but they each lacked the individual power to break through my field on their own. Stasis Field absorbed the inefficient force behind their blows and redirected it back at them, launching all four into the border wall and eliminating them from the fight.
"Unbelievable! She's untouched by any of the attacks!"
"One berserker, two phoenixes, and the one already part of the crest..." I muttered to myself, seeing the transformed klevonian smile with intrigue.
