Reading her bio card, her name was Diana, aka "Rogue Arrow". She was a 3-star threat with a base EQN of 45,187,600. She possessed the Surge eutierric cintracy, which gave her control over water. From the looks of her spirit energy, she was a sage klevonian. Her other cintracy was a temp one called Interface. My guess, it had something to do with the arrow she shot and how it subdued that pneumarian.
I flinched as a random gust of wind blew in and formed a wall around everyone involved, plus us. Suddenly, in the midst of us stood another short klevonian girl with dark curly hair, light green, butterfly wings, and a green elfish dress on. She raised her hands as she willed the wind to maintain the wall. Parts of her body were slowly becoming translucent right before my eyes.
Could she turn invisible!?
Her bio card read that her name was Leta, or more commonly known as "The Vanishing Wing". She, too, was a 3-star threat with a base EQN of 45,873,180. She possessed the Anemos eutierric cintracy, giving her control over wind – making her a tempest fairy – and another temp cintracy called Unseen. According to Viraa, it allowed her to bend light around herself to become virtually invisible.
"Come on, everyone, that's enough," a boyish voice called down from somewhere on the butterfly's back. When the butterfly landed, we saw Steed lazing around, accompanied by a petite guy slightly shorter than the girls, who turned out to be his personal guards. He had pale skin and green eyes with matching short hair. Like the girls, he also had a pair of butterfly wings growing from his back, except his wings were shaped differently, bending downward toward the ground, and had two tail pieces that flowed in the wind behind him.
This was undoubtedly the district's Crest Head. I scanned him with my biolenses. His name was Birch, also known as "The Bearer of Truths". He was a 3-star threat with an EQN of 512,310,000 and had two cintracies: one being Floral Tide, which gave him power over plants, and since he was a pneumarian, that meant he was basically made of plants; the other being a temp cintracy called Veritas.
The way Viraa put it, it was impossible to lie in his presence.
A wave of power burst from the child-like pneumarian, and suddenly, the anxious small crowd calmed down. Even I felt calmer despite not having been agitated in the first place.
Do be careful around this one, Viraa warned us. He may seem child-like, but he has a dangerous combination of abilities. He is not much of a fighter, but in terms of information gathering, he is Pneuma City's best thanks to Veritas and his sacred gift, Emotional Control. With that, he can heighten or lower certain emotions in those around him.
"Hellooo, sorry about that. I don't like violence," the pneumarian announced from the butterfly's back. He sat with his legs dangling over its side as he tilted his head and beamed at us before hopping down. "I'm Birch, this district's Crest Head. And you are Alissia, Avarice, and Za'Fia! Nice to meet you!"
"If only I had your power, Birch..." Steed said, remaining on the butterfly's back. "I'd use it to make Marrow relax more often."
"I don't think he'd like that very much," Birch called back to his friend. "He's essential the way he is, isn't he?"
"Yeah, yeah, I'm just fantasizing," Steed said, placing his hand behind his head and looking to the afternoon sky.
Birch, the bundle of energy he was, approached us energetically. His mannerisms made him seem harmless, but since Viraa's warning, it was hard not to notice that his words were direct and intentional.
"You're the new Crest Head, right? It's weird," he looked at our faces up close with curiosity. "I've never seen a klevonian like you. I've never seen one become a Crest Head either. Hey, you're not from here, right?"
"No, we're from Earth," I answered him to test his Veritas power. From the feel of it, he couldn't control us like Order or anything like that, but if we chose to respond, something forced us to give only the honest answer.
I shared that info with the others.
"Ohhh, Earth? I've never heard of that planet before. What solar system is it in?"
"Where we're from, most just call it the solar system," Za'Fia interjected to prevent me or Avarice from answering the question. I almost told him the Sol System, thinking it wouldn't matter since I doubted they referred to it the same way, but answering the way she did was a better call for sure. Never know what they'd do with the information. Since Tymon wasn't there, I almost slipped up. "The fact that there are so many other lifeforms out in space would surprise most of them."
"Really? That's odd. Most planets we know of are very much aware of other worlds being out there, even beyond the Mystic Walls. Hm. Your home world seems to be far away and disconnected from the rest of the quadrant. Why'd you all come to Cindar then?" Birch asked curiously.
"Ask your colleague, Rabae," Avarice answered. "Personally, I want to learn everything about Cindar's politics. That knowledge will help me cement my status in this new world."
"Spoken like a true goblin," Diana remarked from behind Birch, but ready to fire if any of us made a move against him.
Avarice grimaced at her comment. I could tell he wanted to strike her since the ground at his feet started to turn gold again slightly. I realized this was, what, the second time that'd happened? Normally, he had to touch things with his hands to turn them to gold. There might've been more to his power than even he realized. Probably best I didn't tell him that, though.
"Say what you will, but I don't belong at the bottom with the weak," he seethed, then exhaled slowly, "but more importantly, I want to go beyond Cindar. My thirst for knowledge exceeds any other drive I have – it always has. Once I've learned what I need to on Cindar, I intend to educate myself in the intricacies of interplanetary politics and see other worlds with my own eyes...of course, while establishing my own wealth in the process."
Birch blinked several times at him, then laughed.
"You're not like the other goblins I've met. They only think of money, but your ambitions are grander. I like you! But, hey, you and your friends wouldn't have anything to do with the missing children, would you?"
I could feel the sudden silence thicken the air as everyone stopped and waited for our answer. The pneumarian and noncindarians looked at us in anticipation but remained under Birch's powerful effects.
"No," Za'Fia said, answering straight and to the point.
"I have no interest in children other than my own," Avarice said, disinterested in the topic.
"We don't, but I want to help find them," I answered seriously.
