Unlike the remnants of our resident domain, I found the Pegasus District far more interesting. For one, when we first entered the district, the landscape was an ever-changing beauty that naturally shifted from one stunning view to another. There were lakes and waterfalls of multicolored water that shimmered majestically in the sun.
"Wowww," I said, taking in the scenery. I pulled out the brochure and read, "The Pegasus District. Central city: Caeos. Governed by the Pegasus Crest. The Pegasus Crest has 500 pneumarians and 250 klevonians who mainly utilize the iridescent element in some form. It also boasts an impressive crest worth of 996 billion spendil (over $2.6 trillion). The Pegasus Crest governs the district with a lethargic method – it's a place for nomads who work a few hours just to keep the structure running, then spend most of their day relaxing and enjoying life. There are over 100 million civilians who live in the district."
"Laziness is a governing method? How are they so profitable?" Avarice asked in disbelief.
It works when everyone shares the same opinion on work. Most who reside here put all their effort into work during the few hours they have to work so that they can relax for the remainder of the day. The district does not go out of its way to give itself more work, like many others. Still, the Pegasus Crest is connected enough to partner with others, and their natural fruit is considered the best in the nation, so their passive revenue allows them the luxury of such an unorthodox governing method, Viraa explained.
As we continued to move forward, we eventually noticed that no matter how far we ventured, the city was still nowhere to be seen. We just continued through a weird, thick, slightly multicolored fog, making it difficult to tell the difference between up and down while flying.
We had to stop flying and allow ourselves to fall to orient ourselves. At least then we knew which way was down.
"So, we're lost..."Za'Fia sighed; her flame arm flickered in the foggy atmosphere.
"They really don't want people finding their city, huh?" I said, trying to use my enhanced vision to view as far as I could, but still couldn't see anything beyond the fog.
"Interesting. One usually only goes this far to hide something very valuable," Avarice said, closing his eyes as he tried listening with his enhanced hearing. Suddenly, his eyes snapped open as he heard something.
"Ha ha, nothing of the sort, greedy one," said a voice as someone appeared out of the fog. A female klevonian, dressed in casual clothes, was sitting on a comfy seat that molded to her body. She yawned as if just waking up. Was she napping before we arrived? Judging from her bio card, she was a low-level threat with an EQN of 37 million. "This fog is the result of a large volume of the iridescent element falling from above us. It's the entryway to Caeos."
"This fog is the way in?" I inquired, looking around, then up.
"Yes. For most, one must be guided by a user of iridescence. They're the only ones who can manipulate the illusions in the forest below the Pegasus district and grant others safe passage."
"Judging from how you're able to move around with no concerns, I'm guessing it's safe to assume you're one of the aforementioned guides," Avarice said, watching her carefully.
"I am," she smiled back. "It's my job to keep troublemakers out of the city. But seeing as you're with the newest Crest Head, it would be more trouble for me to deny you entry. So, I'll let you in on the way cindarians can enter without a guide. It's omnivision."
"Omnivision? We've been using it already and still got lost," Za'Fia exclaimed.
"Yes, well, omnivision is the key. A pneumarians omnivision naturally allows them to see all forms of energy if they choose to. We klevonians are more restricted, but there is a way for us to see what they see."
She held up a finger in warning.
"This is a delicate process that I am about to explain. If you mess up, you risk damaging your brain. It's why most klevonians rely on us guides instead of trying to bypass the mist themselves. The way to see through illusions is to focus your inner spirit energy on your eyes and brain simultaneously. But you must maintain a constant, safe application to the brain to avoid damaging it. Do it correctly, and you'll push your senses to view beyond the element's effects."
"You just teach people how to break through your power?" Za'Fia wondered skeptically.
The girl shrugged nonchalantly.
"We of the Pegasus prefer peace and relaxation. We aren't exactly fighters, and don't go making enemies. Besides, there aren't many klevonians who can successfully do this. Plus, illusions are just that. Illusions. They alone aren't going to guarantee one's success in battle anyhow. Against a pneumarian or adequate klevonian, it's meant to only serve as a distraction. For most users anyway."
"So," she sighed at the inconvenience of having to move. "I will guide you all up, but feel free to practice the technique on your own. That way, we guides don't have to be bothered every time you travel through the district."
The girl stood and formed a concentration of energy in the palm of her hand. The energy was plain colored, but it collected the iridescence from the fog before she threw it skyward. She was a demi-sage. We observed as the energy spiraled upward until a path within a colorful funnel opened, revealing land far above.
"I saw you all flying earlier," the girl said, sitting back down and closing her eyes. "I trust you all can make it up without me taking you?"
"Y-Yeah," I answered, a bit taken aback by the lax security in the district.
Still, we shot skyward at breakneck speed. I didn't know how long the path would stay open, so we didn't waste time getting there.
Above the clouds, Caeos of the Pegasus District stretched before us. Everything was somehow lifted by the clouds in the sky, making the air much thinner and crisper than before. Land was high where it would typically never be found. Small mountains and ridges with trees bobbed up and down on the clouds as if floating on water.
On the main piece of land stretched a city. Unlike the others we'd seen, Caeos was a simple city with no significant, extravagant structures. All in all, it was a peaceful, bland place except for the multicolored pools of water that fell off the sides of the island. Or the herd of Pegasi that could be seen skipping across the sky. The leader of which was a pure white stallion.
But what stood out the most was the massive, silver castle elevated behind most of the city. On the castle were stone crystals that glittered in the afternoon sun, giving it a shining effect as we looked at it.
Keeping my thoughts about how misplaced the castle seemed to myself, we pressed on. As we flew over the city, there wasn't a lot going on within it—no major traffic or movement. Most were either in their homes or casually walking the streets, yawning. I imagined they were heading to their homes to take a nap.
Once we were out of the city, there was a mile stretch of cloud that led us to the castle that shined over the city.
