"You only mend what's needed, then allow your team to deal with the remaining injuries," Avarice deduced.
"Yes, that way I can preserve as much energy as possible," Hakan stated. "You're quite observant."
I noticed that not a single person complained about her method either.
They likely recognize that she has saved many lives this way, Viraa inputted.
Suddenly, just as Hakan was about to start healing the patient before her, doors were forced open as three klevonian nurses ushered in a levitating stretcher carrying an unconscious, medium-sized guy. Another klevonian, actually. He was seriously injured with bruises from blunt force trauma all over his body. There was a crest mark of a raging bear on one of his pectoral muscles.
"A berserker member," Avarice said, clearly having read up on each crest symbol.
Hakan looked at the unconscious klevonian with a grave expression, but didn't bother asking what had happened.
"Those barbaric idiots. They're going to kill each other," she muttered, then sighed and assessed his injuries with omnivision, then said, "He was hit with extreme force, likely by a pneumarian. A portion of his chest cavity is crushed. It's chipped and pierced into one of his lungs. To remove the piece, he'll have to be cut open. Every breath he takes inches the shard of bone deeper into his lungs, slowly filling them. He'll die in minutes if nothing is done, but he won't survive the time necessary for me to cut through, remove it, and heal him. The moment the cindium scapple cuts through his skin, his body will convulse, pushing the crushed cavity deeper. Even at high speed, I won't be able to cut him open precisely, gently lift his shattered chest, and then properly heal him before his body naturally convulses in resistance or his lungs fill with blood."
"Then let him die," Avarice suggested rather bluntly. After earning our collective glares, he rolled his eyes and muttered. "I could never understand others' need to save someone they don't know. How does this individual's death affect you?"
Judging from Hakan's disgusted expression, her impression of Avarice had suddenly plummeted in an instant.
"Some of us actually value the lives of others," I remarked.
Avarice shrugged, looked at Hakan, then stated, "If it means that much to you, can't you resurrect him with Rebirth?"
"No. I was made to give my blood oath never to use Rebirth on klevonians outside my own Crest long ago. Many pneumarians feared that it would prolong the rise of new pneumarians within their crests."
"Hm. Shame," Avarice said callously.
"I can do it!" I volunteered, an idea popping in my head. "I could use my power to lift his chest cavity until it stopped piercing his lungs...but then he'd still drown from his blood."
"No, no," Hakan said, stunned at my willingness to help. "It's okay, if you truly have the power to lift it, once it is, I'll be able to heal him. Just raise it straight up gently without moving it around."
"Okay," I said as I activated omnivision. It wasn't exactly X-ray vision, but I could make out some details of his innards to see the shattered bone outline of his chest cavity. I focused my telekinetic energy solely around it and gently lifted it up until the broken piece was no longer in his lung. Expectedly, he started to shake in resistance, but Hakan quickly began to heal him with her orange-green flames.
Not long afterward, he was mostly healed. He still looked beaten and battered, and needed to be wrapped in bandages, but his life wasn't in danger, and he woke.
"What? Where am I?"
"Phoenix District. You nearly died," Avarice informed him nonchalantly as he flipped through digital medical books out of boredom due to having already read them in the Royal Palace.
"That bastard. I'll kill him for this," the guy said as he stubbornly tried to get up.
"You are in no condition to be picking a fight," Hakan said as she gently pushed him back into a lying position. "Your bones still need time to mend properly. I suggest you use meditational healing to speed up the progress."
"No. I have to go after the bastard who did this to me. Pneumarian or not, I'll crush him."
"You'll likely die trying," Avarice remarked.
Refusing to listen, the guy tried to get up again, but Hakan knocked him unconscious for his own good.
"Berserkers. They never listen," she said, then smiled at Alissia and clasped her hands. "I like you. You understand the preciousness that is life."
"I do," I blushed sheepishly.
"Well, you'd all best be moving on. You've got a long day ahead of you if you are truly trying to familiarize yourself with our nation. I appreciate your help. I would've lost a patient had you not been here."
"Glad I could help," I grinned back.
Hakan gave a subtle nod, then said, "Good luck with the others," and left us to continue tending to patients.
From there, we exited the hospital and flew east.
"Where to next?" Za'Fia asked as the wind blew loudly from our speed.
I looked at the map of Pneuma City, then grinned at Avarice, knowing how much he despised his hybrid nature.
"Next stop, the Goblin District," I said.
