The pamphlet even mentioned that the overall financial worth of the crest was 360 million spendil (roughly $972 million). Most of which stemmed from the heavily relied-on use of their highway system.
"Informative," I remarked as I closed the brochure.
As we moved northward toward where we would eventually come across the city itself, we cruised leisurely, taking in the sights. On our way there, we saw a few live graboids surface from the depths of the sands.
Do not venture too close, Viraa warned us. We would not want you to be mistaken for food now, would we?
"As if I'd let those creatures eat me," Avarice remarked with a satisfied grin. He probably imagined what he'd do if one tried.
Self-defense or not, harming a sacred guardian or its descendants is a severe crime, Viraa reminded him.
Among the distant creatures, I noticed more movement.
"What's going on there?" Za'Fia asked, shading her eyes as she squinted in that direction.
I enhanced my vision. I saw a girl dressed in dark green desert garments. She was fighting five noncindarian poachers that were trying to capture some of the graboids. She leaped about with incredible agility as she moved between her enemies, and vines sprouted from the sandy ground to aid her in incapacitating the poachers.
"Using my biolenses, I can see her name is Mimi, also known as 'Copy Seed'," I told them, "She's a 2.5-star threat with an EQN of 41,910,900 in her normal state, and two cintracies. The first is named Flora, likely an eutierric type that allows her to manifest and control vegetation, from what I can tell. The other is Mimicry."
Ah, that allows her to mimic simple cintracies used against her temporarily, Viraa stated.
"So she's a stockpiler too," Avarice commented.
No, not in this case. Her mimicked cintracies only last for an hour, and she is limited to only one at a time. Additionally, there is a 15-second period between each mimicry, during which she cannot copy another. Due to the complexities of mystic and divine cintracies, she is also unable to mimic those.
"That power's useless," Avarice remarked.
"To you, perhaps. I think it depends on how it's used," I commented as we moved on.
We traveled to Sicare, the central city of the district. We found that the city was built between two tall stone hills to its west and east, and had two black walls constructed at its north and south, creating its borders.
Beyond the walls, the city itself seemed very Egyptian with buildings of tough stone, sand, and clay. Along the west coast was a small river that flowed with clean water. However, I wasn't sure how they managed to get a river there. In the city's center stood a tall Egyptian-style palace that served as the city's Crest House.
After landing, we entered the city, and I noticed blurs of random individuals running across the road in what Viraa referred to as tunnel lanes. We walked around, taking in the sights as we made our way to the Crest House to meet the Crest Head.
I was surprised by the sheer volume of non-cindarian individuals we encountered – most of which weren't very powerful, but they were unique-looking. Most people in the district, especially the resident klevonians, wore thin desert garments that flowed lightly in the desert wind.
"Not much going for it, is it?" Za'Fia muttered as she eyed the bland surroundings.
"Some extra technology would bring the place to life," Avarice commented.
"We prefer our home the way it is," said a klevonian as we arrived at the doors of the Crest House. "State your business."
"We're not here to speak to a low-level door guard," Avarice stated before I could answer. "Go bring someone who matters."
The klevonian grinded his teeth and stepped forward just as the door opened.
"Stand down. That's the Chimera Crest Head and her entourage," said a female dressed like the others, but wearing light green and blue. She stood dignified upon a white cloud as it cruised to a stop. I wondered what kind of power that was. She extended a respectful hand with a hidden smile, ushering us inside. "Welcome to Sicare. I'm Sanjna. Some refer to me as Cloud."
When I looked at her with the bio lenses, I saw that she was a 3-star threat with a base EQN of 41,803,500. She possessed a cintracy called Barrier that, according to Viraa, allowed her to create powerful, protective barriers in whatever shape she imagined. Then, to my surprise, she had two other eutierric cintracies, Anemos and Surge, but I focused on the powerful presence I felt inside the building as we entered.
"So you knew we were coming?" I asked, keeping my composure as I admired the rich interior within the palace.
"Yes, I am one of our Crest Head's personal guards. We were made aware of your sudden appearance," she replied as she led us.
"Personal guard?" I questioned. "I get the Ryfi Theos, but why does a Crest Head have bodyguards? Aren't they the strongest pneumarian of their crest?"
"It's precisely because of their power and position that Crest Heads are often targeted for assassination. Enemies of a Crest Head can range from otherworldly oppositions, manipulated or purely stupid klevonians from another crest, or inside pneumarians who wish to take over," Sanjna explained. "Although this is rare since most pneumarians enjoy their lifestyle without the extra responsibilities and hardly attack someone more powerful than themself. Anyhow, despite us all being part of Pneuma City, there are plenty of Crests that hate each other and would eradicate each other if given the opportunity."
We came to a stop. Before us stood a large set of doors that led to the throne room beyond them. But before entering, we read a massive sign for the public to see. It was a feeding schedule for the Crest Head, apparently. It read:
