A few miserable hours later…750Please respect copyright.PENANAnCFDkDd7D2
A strip of evening light coloured the southwest horizon, where the yolk had sunk beneath the waves that crashed against the windy shores. There was a shadowy panel lying over the waters that was shimmering no more as easterly winds picked up strength, but the town’s stores and restaurants remained undeterred by the chill in the air as they continued intriguing customers who had planned to celebrate their working week’s end and the beginning of a new season. Bands played popular songs, and pedestrians orchestrated their audiences as the last boats sailed out into the harbour under the sky's watch, which was no longer blue. The sky had turned nearly pitch black, with not a single star illuminating the vast expanse except for the white half moon that appeared over the channel as lamplighters lit gas street lanterns one street at a time. Stacks of smoke rose from chimneys, exhaling fumes from the fires of warmly heated homes, which formed a veil like a soft silken sheet over the rolling roofs. Each driveway and gap along the side of the road was filled with cars, while the chatter and laughter of parents, children, and their elders echoed from each house. When the embers of the last lamp were blown out, the troublemakers stepped out of their school campus and closed the gates behind them as a breeze washed over their faces. Shivering, the group sighed in relief as they travelled down the eerily quiet pavement, but their walk was suddenly interrupted by beeps and vibrations coming from their jackets. Alerted, Arminius retrieved his pager from his pocket and halted to read its message that Colt seemed to have received as well.
Hjü kmng? (You coming?) An abbreviated message that came from Edward was spelt out on the greenish displays of their pagers.
Slipping his pager back into his pocket, the Easterner turned to his friend with his thumbs hooked around the straps of his schoolbag. “You still heading to Richmund’s?” Colt asked, curious as to what devices and games he had bought since last he was there.
Arminius shook his head, remembering that he had promised Elise yesterday that he would take her to the Winter Eve Festival. “No, but I’ll swing by your place tomorrow morning.” He offered instead, which excited his friend.
“Alright, I’ll hold you to that!” Colt lightly punched him in the chest and waved goodbye, beginning to make his way down another path with a spring in his step as if he had already forgotten about their detention earlier.
Wincing with a slight smile on his fatigued face, Arminius returned a wave and watched as his friend clumsily stumbled over the bumps in the pavement before he disappeared around the corner of the cliffside road that led toward a settlement of estates of prominent statesmen. After seeing his friend off, the boy untangled the wires of his earphones and plugged them into his audio player while crossing the road, then continued jogging down the hill to the beat of the song he had paused that morning.750Please respect copyright.PENANAEs3yFEhBkW
