By the year 485, the Crown of Bohemen had been suffering from centuries of political decline. Its borders continued to retreat from invasions, and its kings did nothing to relieve the situation. August IV, King of Lechen, rose to the opportunity to secure his southern borders and dispatched his ablest general, Władysław Warneńczyk, to seek out the complete subjugation of the Bohemer despite warnings made by the military council that it would drain the war coffer and leave the kingdom open for attack by their neighbour, the Zhermanner. Nevertheless, Warneńczyk was forced to heed his orders, and he set out to conquer their southern ally with seventy-five thousand men. With an army led by the famed Peasant King on their doorstep, the Crown of Bohemen scrambled to deploy their forces under Adrien Nikola, but he was soundly defeated in a string of battles that made him surrender Limen Pass, the eastern corridor which leads into the Bohemer heartlands. Given the incompetence of the generals of the old order, the Crown purchased the services of Matyáš Žižka, an infamous highwayman, to dispatch the invaders. His unconventional guerrilla tactics in the surrounding hills and mountains forced Warneńczyk’s retreat, and he was hailed a hero. He was called to arms again when Warneńczyk returned with a greater army in tow, and their two forces met on the field of battle. Žižka bolstered his ranks with another army from Ungren, a neighbouring kingdom, which understood the threat the Lecher posed, and greatly outnumbered Warneńczyk. Although Žižka was defeated, the loss sustained in this single battle forced Lechen to sue for peace. Although the Crown of Bohemen was formally forced to cede Limen Pass and its surrounding territories to her enemy, Žižka was nonetheless propelled into the nobility he used to steal from.
