The Amerikeeuroper League of Nations is a fragile intercontinental alliance of twenty-five nation-states founded by Sean Kennedy in 438 as a successor to the Entente of the Second Calamity. It has no physical headquarters, and its Commander-in-Chief is elected by a popular vote held once by each member state's national cabinet and once by their Armed Forces representatives upon the death of the previous commander. The League gave the impression that peace was guaranteed, but it was nothing more than a farce that allowed the continuation of warring over ancient grudges as long as such conflicts took place within the confines of the alliance. As such, the nations of the League have long been plagued by population decline, economic stagnation, and cultural homogenisation—problems that do not persist in their rival, the Confederacy. One article, however, has been treated with more respect: Article 5. It states that if a member state is attacked by an external entity, all member states are required by law and honour to uphold the alliance and defend themselves. Article 5 is highly respected because it emphasises the importance of mutual defence.
