The birds were the first; they took to the skies and flew north in droves. Some of them flew about almost in a panic, a funny sight, but it was beautiful to see the swarms as they flew overhead. Next were the dogs, the few strays that hid in the alleyways; they up and disappeared like they'd never been there.
The day was normal and calm, then suddenly the earth trembled. The floor vibrated, windows rattled, tables leapt, and trees swayed as the intensity increased. No way, an earthquake! Everyone dove beneath their desks, waiting for it to end.
