Regarding your question, most of my stories are inspired by real events that sparked them. In this case, the story was based on an experience I had last month: the gym I usually go to was temporarily closed due to a gas leak, just like in the story. The nearest branch of the same company, located in a neighborhood that had seen better days, surprisingly had an indoor pool that had been financed by a petroleum company to compensate local residents. The pool itself was magnificent, a striking contrast to the rest of the gym. That experience was the inspiration for the story, blending reality with some narrative elements to convey the feeling and atmosphere I encountered.
