Your next novel sounds exciting. As a beta reader, I’d be happy to share thoughts or ideas as you’re developing it, whether that’s feedback on characters, pacing, themes, or overall story direction. Feel free to let me know what stage you’re at and how you’d like input.
As a beta reader, one suggestion would be to keep the rules of the “game” clear early on, even if all the details aren’t revealed yet. That way readers feel grounded and understand what’s at stake as the story progresses. I also think tying progression or rewards to character choices not just wins or power can add emotional depth and make the system feel meaningful.
I’d be happy to share more focused feedback if you have a chapter, outline, or specific element you’d like a beta reader’s perspective on.
I’m not a professional author in the sense of having published novels, but I do have experience as a beta reader and providing story feedback, especially around pacing, clarity, character arcs, and reader engagement. I enjoy looking at stories from a reader’s perspective and offering constructive, thoughtful input to help strengthen them.
I’d be happy to share more ideas or feedback tailored to your urban fantasy concept just let me know what aspect you’d like me to focus on.
From a beta-reader perspective, I usually look at character construction across a few key dimensions:
1. Core identity – This includes the character’s role in the world, background, values, and personal goal. Readers should quickly understand who this person is and what they want.2. Strengths and limitations – Especially in urban fantasy, abilities or powers feel more engaging when they come with clear costs, rules, or weaknesses.3. Internal conflict – Beyond external threats, characters should be struggling with something personal (fear, guilt, doubt, divided loyalty). This adds depth early on.4. Growth potential – At the beginning of the story, it helps if the character is incomplete in some way, leaving room for meaningful change over the course of the adventure.5. Connection to the setting In urban fantasy, characters often work best when their personal life, job, or past is tightly connected to the city or hidden world they inhabit.
For urban fantasy adventure specifically, characters who balance the “ordinary” with the “extraordinary” tend to resonate well people who feel grounded and relatable, but are forced into magical or dangerous situations that challenge their worldview.
If you’d like to continue the discussion in more detail or share drafts more easily, you can also reach me at [inkscope77@gmail.com].
I’m happy to offer more focused feedback on specific characters or opening chapters if you’d like.
While my main experience is as a beta reader and providing story feedback, I do enjoy writing creatively from time to time, especially when it’s idea-driven or experimental. I’m open to exploring writing opportunities depending on the scope, expectations, and format involved.
If you’re comfortable sharing a bit more about the platform and what kind of writing you have in mind, I’d be happy to take a look and see if it’s a good fit.
The platform idea sounds really interesting, and I’d be excited to explore it whenever the trial phase opens. In the meantime, what’s the best way to stay in touch with you would you prefer email, or is there another method you usually use?
Looking forward to continuing our discussion and sharing ideas.
I was wondering, would it also be possible to continue our conversation via Gmail? I find email a bit easier for keeping track of ideas and feedback. My address is [inkscope77@gmail.com].
Either way works for me I just want to make sure I can share ideas and feedback in the most convenient way for you.
